Thanks for pix. Wondering if a custom leather diamond stitched cover over a thin Dynamat lining to substitute out for oem might also work.

The 981 is very nice, and I enjoy driving it, but I enjoy the more raw, analog, clean look and feel of the 987.

I feel the same way (but feel the need to check by finding a 981 to drive a couple of times a year).

Have tried removing the carpet and foam behind the seats. Didn't find it a game changer, but probably adds 0.5 to 1" of extra recline which is definitely all to the good. Will try this for a bit before deciding if it's worth investigating seats.

Most of the seat travel is from removing the lower piece of carpet/foam, though getting it out is a little more involved than the upper piece!

The top part of the seat is now hard against the firewall, and this is where I'd ideally like a bit more reach - there's actually a gap between my lower back and the seat when I slump to get low enough, so don't think removing the lower piece of carpet/foam would help (would make the seat more upright as it moves back, but not extend reach). As you say, seems it's glued in place so more hesitant to remove.
