New Engine Project
I am happy to tell you that while the centre cylinders are easy to machine out and replace with wet liners but the end ones (particularly the flywheel end furthest one) have space restrictions that will be difficult to identify without machining out the old liner first - taking care as you go not to machine through anywhere. I have pictures of when we machined ours (if that helps) and of the liners but they will remain as a private post between us after the NDA - sorry (you may well manage without if you prefer).
We understand the spray jets are not available (so if anyone knows how to obtain them please let me know). They are pressed into a hole that is larger lower down and then the inside is spread out for form an enlarged end to keep them in place. We came up with a way to get them out and re-fix them but you could blank them off or I understand some others bend them out of the way and bend them back again after machining (not us).
You can make a boring tool end to miss them but it would cost a lot more to make a hone to reach the bottom without touching them (if you need to hone the new cylinders after fitting).
Alusil is also hard to machine (due to all the hard silicon particles cast in it) and without a good quality machine a taper may emerge as the bore gets lower (and we also use a new CNC bed mill for the job and diamond tipped cutting tools fitted to purpose designed tooling for all our cylinder block work and they make a lovely job of it).
So - just to reinforce that we are happy to help but on this occasion prefer it to be private unless it is about information (like above) that we are happy to share with other engine builders. Hope everyone is OK with that?
Baz
