Default weight savings on upgrading from oem headers/manifold on 987.2?

I’m trying to justify an upgrade from oem headers/manifolds to an aftermarket.

It will be catted so I’m wondering it there are weight savings to going with the upgrade.

i see many aftermarket offerings have weights on their products (usually only the non cat race ones though), I am unable to find a reliable weight source for the oem ones...

has anyone looked into this?

probably less than emptying your glovebox. The sound and engine performance are the main differences. I have a 987.1 but when I upgraded to soul performance catted headers it felt like the car was able to breath better with much less restriction. The oem headers were three pipes that met on one pipe on 90º angles whereas the soul headers have one pipe per cylinder that feeds right into the less restrictive cat. Made a big difference in the tone of the sound and definitely felt slight hp gains. Definitely worth the upgrade imo

Don't expect to save too much with catted headers. Most aftermarket headers will use longer runners and a more efficient collector design which can add weight. Our Long Tube Street Headers weigh 1.8 lbs / 1.5 kg less than factory headers (26.25 lbs vs 24.45 lbs).

What you will notice is a distinctly more crisp exhaust note, better throttle response, and an increase in driving enjoyment without any noxious fumes or check engine lights.

Can only comment on 981, which would be similar. I was expecting a weight savings when I changed headers, since the website stated there would be. I weighed both sets. There was no savings (1lb?). Website hopefully was updated. It was part of my decision process too, but it was not to be. Still, very happy with the performance and sound, so still worth it.

Correct, on a 981, changing OEM headers/cats for aftermarket headers with cats will save less than 1 lb. per side. Unless you buy titanium headers from somewhere. Don't know if those exist.

I’ll leave this for your enjoyment. Cargraphic long tunes, Borla exhaust and Cobb pro tune by BGB.

I run Cargraphic race headers, OEM PSE exhaust, and a BGB pro tune for 93 octane gas. Love it.

I saved 15 lbs. on a 987.2 Boxster Spyder by replacing the OEM headers and exhaust with Fabspeed Sport headers and Borla exhaust. I added a Softronic flash and have been very happy with the sound and performance. I am 5’ 10” and weigh 160 lbs.

As most of the responses so far, the gains from upgrading from OEM to "sport headers" is negligible. The biggest improvement you will see with upgrading your headers, is the power and exhaust note. If you are looking to add a bit more throttle response, and sound, Fabspeed Sport cats add HP, TQ, and sound awesome! (i'm not biased, I swear) HJS catalytic converters are proven against all other cheaper cats on the market, and at Fabspeed, we GUARANTEE no CEL !! Take a look at the product and feel free to PM for forum pricing!!

  • Fits all Porsche 987.2 Boxster/Cayman, Cayman R, Boxster Spyder vehicles worldwide all makes models (2009-2012)
  • Includes German-imported 200-cell HJS HD EURO 6 certified Sport Catalytic Converters for maximum performance
  • Constructed from equal-length T304 stainless steel C.N.C. mandrel-bent tubing for improved torque and equalized engine pulsing
  • More power and torque across the RPM band and dramatically improved sports car sound
  • Optimized for maximum performance with NO check engine light, guaranteed.
  • HJS Germany makes the worlds very best catalytic converters utilizing EMITEC Tier 1 tri-metallic cores and a proprietary precious metal wash coat. Platinum, Palladium, Rhodium.
