Default The Dreaded Slow Crank Issue

Looks like I have the above. Quick inspection looks like the cable insulation at the starter is cracked. Car starts fine when cold.

I'll do a voltage drop test this weekend.

Anybody done this on a Cayman? I found many threads for a 997 but not any for the Cayman.

Appreciate in advance any link or other advice.

Cant say I've ever heard of this as a common issue. But having stripped the car completely will say the starting circuit is very simple. There are only a few connections.
Battery to PDU (passenger floorboad)
PDU to B+ terminal on top/front of engine
B+ terminal to starter.

If I were to take a wild guess, I would be looking at the ground strap from engine to chassis. Its on the bottom passenger side of the engine.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply.

Looks like the bat cable from to the PDU is the same as the 997.

It really cranks slow when the engine is hot....but only when hot.

I'll check the grounds as well this weekend. I have heard that is also a common issue.

Certainly check all of your cables and ground connections, but a slow crank only when the engine is hot is often the starter itself.

Bad battery.

12.09 V at the battery static. When running negeligable drop from 14.15 volts at the bat terms.

Cranks great now. Turns out the agm that was with the car is almost 8 years old!. Hard to believe.

Glad it was that simple. Glad I was wrong.

Yes....I agree. Just rigging to test the leads was quite a feat. It has the same disconnect from the Bat + to the PDU as the 997 but it tested fine.

The cable to the starter is different then the 997 for that year. But the starter is near impossible to get at unless most of the induction on top is removed.
