Default New here, new to Porsche

Hi folks. First post. New to the forums. Recently picked up my first Porsche, a 2014 Cayman S (which I believe means a 981 in the parlance). I've had a lot of different cars, but never a Porsche.

It will be my daily (although I don't actually drive every day) and an occasional track car, replacing a combination of a MINI JCW Coupe (2-seater) and an Alfa Romeo Guilia Quadrifoglio.

We had a VW Jetta Diesel and went through the whole buy-back thing and as a result, basically swore off V.A.G ... but here we are.

Such a perfect looking car. Congrats! Would be interested in a review of how you came to decide on this and your impressions vs Mini and Alfa. Obviously very different cars from the cayman but I'm interested because I'm a car guy first and a Porscheoholic second.

Welcome to Porsche and the 981 Cayman is a fantastic car. Love the size and styling (Tony Hatter from the 993...).

Very nice. Looks like it has standard suspension. I assume no PASM button? If standard, you can literally transform the car by retrofitting Porsche's X73 option (new springs, shocks and beefier ARBs). It's not outrageously costly (Suncoast usually has a good price on the kit) and it significantly firms up the ride without any jarring, and will have the car cornering pool table flat. Best sub-$2000 mod, and it would add value (and appeal) to the car as well. It's what Porsche called the "Sport Suspension" option. Lowers the car 20mm. Most everyone here raves over X73. The suspension came standard on the 981 Spyder, and most 981 GTS would have it, and some lucky S models.

Do you have any plans for it? Modding - or just drive and smile?

Mostly driver mods first. I will put track pads on it and then spend some more time getting to know the car as it is.

I took a car-control clinic with it and I didn't get as far with it as I had hoped, but the car is impressive, rotates well, and is very balanced and controllable. I was more familiar with the power and torque of the QV and kept giving up on the Cayman and backing out of skids too soon, where I should have kept my foot in it more and drove through it. After that day of aggressive driving and lots of fast steering input, my first complaint is this car doesn't have the sport steering wheel and those little shifter buttons on this steering wheel seem like they're always in the way. I may have to upgrade that if I can't get used to it.
