Default any concerns with high mileage 987.2 ?

I am considering getting a cayman 987.2 but it is high mileage one. I cannot get much history of services of car as it has alot of owners.

Anything conern on getting a car like this with no history? I am not aware of any documented issues like the 987.1 had so lack of history is not an issue?

Of course, I will get the rpm report for each gear but if that passes, any other things to look at? Also what would be the going price for a 987.2 with 100K miles

Thanks

Unless it is super cheap and you have enough money to fix any potential problems, I would stay away from it. These are performance cars and you never know how the former users have abused the car. Lots of red flags here: many owners, no history, 100k.

The high mileage is not your problem here. The lack of service history in combo with the many owners is!

Walk away unless it’s really cheap.

a high mileage car should have Lots of service history showing that all wear and tear items have been properly taken care of.

It is not cheap. It is listed at market value. Thanks for the feedback

What about whatever got reported in carfax? I am just thinking at time of sell if I will have a heck of a time.

My response is different... I'd not be concerned with miles or number of owners. Cars like this at the bottom of the luxury sportswear world trade hands a lot more than most other cars.

My recommendation is that if you like the car; get a PPI and rely on that. Miles + maintenance and these cars will run a lot longer than a car that sits - probably forever!

+1 - PPI is super important. Being a 987.2 a lot of concerns are taken care of as no IMS, RMS, and hopefully no bore scoring.

Some of the things I would check for are: AOS, coolant line condition, water pump, compression, any ticking or smoke on startup, suspension condition (bushings, bearings, struts), CV boots, 2nd gear grinding or pop-out.

If you are considering getting it because it fits your budget be aware the higher the miles the more wear items pop up and need to be budgeted for.

This, get a PPI done and that will tell you a lot about the car

Carfax then PPI then decide.

How many owners is a lot of owners?

To the naysayers, what if carfax shows trips to the dealer for maintenance every year?

The car has 5 owners. I don't know but to me that's too many if I become the 6th owner.

carfax shows trip is fine to me however I am ONLY thinking about resale. I had 997.2 with 5 owners and over 110K miles, even though car was problem free and leak free, it took me near 8 months to sell the car. I don't know if it is the high mileage in combination of lack of service history but I DO NOT want to repeat the same experience once it is time to sell the car

I'm not sure how long ago that was but with the inflated economy and people spending money like crazy right now, anything that is priced reasonable with a Porsche badge isn't sitting around. If you like this car and it is priced fairly then better to act fast or contemplating won't matter. 987.2's are slowing a lot on depreciation so best advice is to make an offer you're comfortable with and quantify the ROI based on mental happiness

its not the owners, its the mileage and if you dont keep it for at least 3 years it would look to me like you bought a lemon and are trying to get out ASAP

In the pre toyota days the value of a porsche was dependant on the work done, not the mileage. Now i think mileage comes into play as more are owned by regular people who have dealers do the work v enthusiasts who worked on their cars, etc.

I'm over 130k in my 987.2S PDK with essentially zero issues and nothing beyond basic maintenance. And this is with autocross, DEs and time trials; these cars are just built so damned well.

I'm sure it will impact resale, but I didn't buy this car as an investment, I bought it to DRIVE! I'm about ready to drive it 1600 miles to compete in SCCA Autocross National Championship. And then another 1600 miles home. Will be the 3rd time, the first of which was at 80k right after I bought it. Events at several tracks including several hours of DE around VIR, 140+mph, etc. Don't let mileage scare you!

If resale is a concern to you then don't buy a high mileage vehicle, period.
