I've had a 986 Boxster and now a 981 Boxster. Zero leaks. They DO fog, but that's because I'm soaking wet from walking to my car(s) in the rain and *poof* insta-fog. But it's not because the cars are leaking in any way. And I'm also a PNW-er.

Also, had two 987 S's never had any leaks, although the only water they ever saw came from the hose..

4+ years, 50k miles, many driving rainstorms, and year-round use here. No leaks. With good tires, it's a very good rain car.

Well the first issue is that the OP got his information from a BMW mechanic. I don't drive my Boxster everyday but I drive it enough in the winter to get plenty of rain and I live in Portland. Make sure that you seal the top with a good high quality sealer and the water will bead right off of the top. No issues at all with water leaks.
