Default Service Pricing

My wife just purchased an Audi S7. She made me LOL when she complained about the price of Audi Care, which covers the costs of maintenance for 4yrs/40K miles. She told me that they wanted to charge her $990 for the service but she negotiated it down to $850. Porsche dealer maintenance for four years would easily exceed $3K for four years. So a Porsche costs four times as much to maintain as an Audi S7, which isn't exactly an economy car. I know this is old news for you guys, but just had to vent.

Porsche makes money from labor, which is admittedly because the engines are so much more difficult to access.

For a DIYer, I haven't found the cost of parts on these cars to be anything more than my experience with Volvo, Subaru, and Ford.

Spark plugs, oil, oil filter, drain plug/washer, air filter, serpentine belt, and cabin filter cost ~$150 for genuine Porsche parts and took me just over two hours.

Porsche wanted over $2500 and that's just for the typical 40k mile maintenance.
I'd say $3k in 4 years is a low ball estimate at the dealership.

I helped my brother lease an S3 last year and told him to deny the Audi Care coverage ($800 IIRC). His lease is for 3 years but the first service at 10k is free, he's gotta do the 2nd, and then technically he can turn in the car by the time his 3rd service is required. Like most cars, the 2nd year service just adds replacing the cabin air filter and brake fluid flush to the annual oil & filter change.

Not sure if other manufacturers do this, but the Audi dealer said they'd increase the residual by 1% if he accepted the Audi Care plan, but that cost gets added to the total and you end up paying interest on it too.

There's no way I'd go with Audi Care on a 3 year lease. Almost every dealer offers service specials, so I expect that the cabin filter and oil change can be done for less than $200. I referenced Audi Care not to suggest that it's a great deal, but just as a comparison to Porsche service costs.
