New to 987.2
Hello all,
I am new to this forum. The 987 Cayman S has always been my dream car and now the prices are low enough to afford. From 2011 to 2014, I owned a 2001 Porsche Boxster base with the 2.7L 217hp motor and 5SPD MT. I autocross'd it and tracked it at NJ Motorsports Raceway. I enjoyed the car thoroughly from 77,000-95,000 miles and I sold it for more than what I bought it for because the value increased in that time frame. In my time with the car, I replaced the fuel pump, front lower control arms, and AOS. For fun, I had installed Eibach springs, euro lights, TS Pro exhaust and mid pipes, Upgraded CAI, and RSS under drive pulley. I did all preventative maintenance and repairs myself except for the suspension work so I still have all of my "Porsche" tool sets.
I have done lots of research off forums, but the general consensus is that the 987.2 is "reliable" without any of the issues of previous M96 engines. But does the 987.2 have any common issues I should look out for? What maintenance is typically required for a high mileage Cayman S?
I am looking at 09-12 Cayman S with 75,000-100,000 miles. There are a few available in my area in the low $20's. It will be mainly garage kept in the winter and autocross'd 8-10 times in Spring-Summer.

The water pump seems to be the most common issue, they seem to fail every 45 - 60k miles. Outside of that I would just want to make sure the car has been properly maintained with frequent oil changes.

It is amazing a 987.2 S with 75k miles can be had for mid-$20K. An unbelievable machine. A car with performance specs similar to an F430 with low cost of maintenance and high reliability. How lucky are we all to have these available for these prices?

There is a 2010 Cayman S at $75k will full service history, 1 owner, GPS, not modified, for $26,500 being sold by an Audi dealership. I was just looking at it the other day and I put an offer, but the dealer wouldn't budge on price.

Wow that is a bargain! I’m tempted to buy another to flog at the autox and keep the Spyder for the occasional canyon runs.
