I captured oil and coolant temp... both stabilized at 84-88C on my 2010 Boxster Base...
I noticed that the needle on the dash lies a little in general. I forget the exact amount, but it doesn't seem like it was 50F difference (except maybe before warmup). I'm happy to dig deeper if desired.
I built a digital Oil Temp gauge that mimics an Analog gauge. Data is from the VDO Oil Temp sender installed on the Boxster engine. The unit uses an ESP32 micro-controller and a 2.2" OLED display.
Unit is mounted in the Boxster Center console, lower spare cubby. The other gauge is a Volt/Amp meter. Oil Temp Gauge with Volt/Amp meter VDO Sender
Next model will access the CAN-bus. There is an easy interface for this that can display other data also.
I'm investigating this.

Very cool. Have you learned anything new since your last post?
Some, but I had a busy summer driving. I'm just starting to change to fall, then winter.
I've investigated this and will do more over the next 5-6 months.
A 3-meter display that shows Oil Temp, Pressure and real Water Temp is a thought going forward.
it's all there on the CAN-Bus

That would be awesome. Just bought the wife a 987.2 base for track duty. She's probably not at the ability to really overheat the car. But it would be nice to know the temps in case she does get to that ability.

Well, you mention an interesting point.
I live near BIR here and have been involved more with track cars the past 2 years.
I've seen up close what they do.
What I'd like, is a simple, thin panel that you could stick in the center console, displaying those in a typical sweep dial/meter gauge, OLED, backlit, etc., or it's a touch screen that you can select between the 3 displays
