performance chip for cayman
I have a 2014 cayman S. Any suggestions if it is worthwhile to install a performance chip for increased horsepower and where I go for this in the Sacramento area? Thanks. Gary

It's not worth tuning a naturally aspirated car in my opinion. The gains are minimal and the cost/benefit financially and in terms of reliability is simply not worth it. You're better of spending your money on other upgrades, like tires, brakes, exhaust, etc.

That seems to be the consensus. Thank-you

I don't know, I did the Softronic tune on my 987.2, in addition to tires/etc. and it sure seems noticeable. Had someone drive it who regularly tracks an R and they asked me right away what I did to the engine as it felt more powerful. Softronic has data to show an extra 20-30 hp and more torque on the 987.2. For $1K I'm happy I did it.

20-30 hp? I would think that to achieve that milestone, intake and exhaust would have to be increased for better engine breathing. Intake is limited while exhaust mods remove restrictions out the tail end. Tunes can make the throttle more responsive and give the impression of a minor hp gain. I have PDK on my 987S and a tune on that delays shift points and, based on custom mapping, can make quite a difference. Just saying.........
The 3.4 is the same engine basically as the Carrera which produces 350hp - what I found was that the general consensus was that it is detuned into Cayman/Boxster.

We do not do tunes on 987.1. Stock program only. Increasing the rev limit on a stock engine is a recipe for disaster!

Hi there, I have a 2006 987.1 Cayman S and was looking into getting it tuned with a chip. Are you able to explain a little more on why you don't recommend doing it on the 987.1?

My last cayman was 2006 S and I did the softronic tune along with fabspeed exhaust and headers and intake and ipd plenum and gt3 tb,was very happy with results.
i just bought a 2012 cayman base and already did carnewal exhaust and BMC filter ,I am thinking of doing headers and then softronic.cobb doesn’t do base 2.9 Engines and softronic was very reliable.
