987.2 is pretty much bulletproof. Follow the scheduled maintenance procedures and its unlikely you will ever experience any big repair bills.

Race oil, deep sump, don't raise the rev limiter, and keep it cool.

I've put together a PDF that goes over prepping an M96/M97 engine for the track, as found in your 987.1.

both 3.4 and 2.9?

does 3.4 suffer from bore scoring? Heard that 981 3.4 does.

It's not as common as with the M96/M97 engine with its Lokasil bores, but scoring does occur on the 987.2 and 981 engines. The Alusil blocks used in these engines share a process used by most European manufacturers, with incidents of scoring distributed evenly between all makes/models. Not something to loose sleep over though.
