Third brake light gasket
My 07 Cayman S rear high mounted brake light appears to have a gasket out of place between the hatch glass. How difficult is this to get at? Should I just remove, or buy a new gasket, it is visually distracting to look at.
Unfortunately I have not. But with a thin wire and some tweezers I did manage to pick out some of the offending gasket, so that it does not look quite so bad. Still could not figure out how to remove the actual light to do the job properly.
What you're seeing is just a thin strip of adhesive backed foam that is ran around the edge of the brake light assembly. This is not available from Porsche separately from the complete brake light. If you really want to do something about it you'll have to remove the entire rear lid trim to get to the screws that hold the third brake light.
There 2 little covers that pop out towards the rear most section of the trim. This will reveal 2 t20 screws. They're hard to see. You almost have to lay in the cargo area and look back towards where the latch is. Pull those out and then the rest is held in with clips. Pull down and the trim will come off, take care of the wire harness for the light in the lid.
