How much maintenance costs changed between 986 and 987 generation?

I will be looking at 986 2.7 2003/2004 car, so it's the latest 986 after the facelift. However I stumbled upon opinion that 987 are much cheaper to run. Is that true?

I have a 07 987.1.
I think they look much better, and the interior seem like it will age better. I'm not speaking in terms of materials, but general look. The 996/986 interiors already seem old to me.
I'm not sure about the base model engine, but my S has been perfect. It doesn't see many miles, mainly autox and back roads.
My yearly costs to maintain are just oil and brake fluid. If you put more miles, pad/rotors (every few years), and ultimately a water pump and clutch. In the 5 years I've owned it, I only recently change the spark plugs. The car is reliable and I honestly haven't spent much to keep it going.

Other than a much better IMS bearing used in the 987.1 (‘05-‘08), and no IMS bearing in the 987.2, there really isn’t a significant difference in maintenance and repair issues between the 986 and 987. Age, mileage, and previous owner maintenance are really the biggest factors that will determine which will require fewer repairs and maintenance.
There may be a few parts that Porsche improved the design and production on with the 987 but I’ve understood that pretty much the same repairs and maintenance apply to both.
As Syeo noted above the 987 interior is more modern looking and the double clutch PDK was available from ‘09 on (987.2).
