Hey something directly in my wheelhouse. The wrist fracture is what is called a Colles fracture. That type of break occurs when a falling human naturally extends their arm to break the fall and the hand hyper extends.

Yeah, one would think a classic Colles fracture, and externally it presented with a dramatic swan neck deformity! But in reality, the point of impact somehow was on the medial, ventral aspect of my wrist, inferior to the snuff box. There were several fractures and grossly displaced fragments, and the technical term used by my hand guy for qualifying the defect was "smashed.". It happened so fast that I didn't have time to extend a limb to protect myself - which is why I'm so thankful the point of impact wasn't my face, neck, spine, pelvis, etc. I'm a lucky guy.

I think I must be really lucky 'cause on every fall I've taken my old (really old!) judo training takes over and I roll rather than try to "stop".

I've never fallen from a horse though, although once it was from a dirt bike.

Happy healing.

Greg
