Default Jacking and Tracking

Excuse me if this has been posted before. I searched all over and came up with nothing?

How do you get all four wheels off the ground? I really like changing my own brake pads and taking the wheels off to clean them. Part of having the car is being able to put it on jack stands and get underneath it once in a while. I can't find a center jack point that will let me raise one end at a time.

Do I have to jack one corner at a time?

Also, Is there anything I should know before I do a track day in it? I've already been to several track days in my M3. Any quirks, I should know about? I was going to mount up some Pilot Sport Cup 2's for it. Whats your favorite track tire?

I appreciate your feedback and help.

I use these: liftbars.com

Many use: jackpointjackstands.com

Downside of the liftbars is they are awkward (impossible?) to pack in a Porsche for a track day trip. The Jackpoints stack and pack pretty nicely. You'll need a floor jack with either product.

There are hundreds of posts in the GT4 subforum of this forum about track tires. Many people like the Bridgestone RE71Rs.

You are probably not using the search function correctly if you found no results on Rennlist for the questions you asked.

put jack under rear pad (in front of rear wheel), lift entire side up.
out jack stand on front pad (behind front wheel) and another stand under rear subframe.
repeat the other side.
all other methods take longer or uses more jacks.
all the racing caybman are lifted up this way

Where do you put the first jack stand?

+1 for Liftbars. Just got them recently and like them. They fit the jacking points perfectly since they are custom made for the car. The car was very stable on them. One drawback is you need a super low profile jack to get under them, or another method to elevate the car so jack will slide under the bar.

i recently bought the quickjack 5000 for my house and i like it. they can be transported if need be but lift bar looks cool.
also what mooty said. it's pretty easy once you've done it a few times

I miss the "single center lift point for entire side of car" design on my old '88 944. That was the bomb. I could change all pads in that car in less than 20 mins using one good floor jack and a cordless drill.

By the 968 iteration, they had moved to fore-and-aft lift points. I guess Porsche has decided to gravitate further away from easy to do rapid wheel/brake work on their street cars. That's a bit of a shame for track rats and maintenance enthusiasts.

For the 987S, I just work one side of the car at a time, unless I've got a very involved project. Something like removing and rebuilding all four calipers, or installing Stainless Steel brake lines... something that's more than an hour's worth of work... that would warrant the full-up jack stand adventure for me.

The dance of getting the car high enough on jack stands without a uniform lift of some sort is just a little too nerve racking for my tastes to repeat with much frequency. However one chooses to do it, take appropriate time and care.

Hey C-gt3, How well does the Quickjack work for the Boxster? I'm interested-have a 2011 Boxster S and '90 C2 and would like a good lift that could work for each...

I use Quickjack for my GT4. I've also lifted a Mazda 3 with them. It takes a few times to get used to position them, but they make life so much better.
