Pathologic ADD...Anyone driven the '17 R8 and the '16 981 Spyder?
Had my 981 Spyder for almost a year and absolutely love it....however, I have recently become vexed with the new R8. Anyone whose driven both willing to offer their opinion? I understand they are very different cars, but my garage can only handle one...

The new R8 is dead to me. The styling is a step back IMO (admittedly subjective) and the loss of the 8 cylinder and MT brings tears to my eyes (not subjective). It had the coolest shift gate this side of a classic Ferrari, alas gone (also not subjective).
Hold on to your Spyder say I. 10x more special.

They're not even close to be competitors, but I'd also choose a Spyder hands down. The only thing I like about the Audi is the V10; that's it. The interior is nothing special, I personally don't like it at all (also think it's worse than before). And a deal-breaker feature to me is the ridiculous cargo capacity. Don't know if the Spyder has less than my Cayman GTS's 15 cu/ft, but it's definitely more than the paltry 8 for the Audi (it used to be 5). And finally, after getting used to drive a 3K-lb sports car, don't feel like going back to 3,600 even if a lot more powerful. It's all about the driving experience to me. Oh, and no more AWD sports car either (after the GTR). But it's for YOU. Go drive one, and if you can afford both, then make up your mind. Good luck.

- 2WD vs. 4WD
- 3 pedal vs. 2 pedal
- 2,899 lbs. vs. 3,550 lbs.
- Alcantera vs. pleated leather (leave pleats for the Bentley crowd)
- Guages vs. "virtual cockpit display"
- ~$95K vs. ~$165K for R8 coupe -- for the R8 Spyder expect ~$175K, or close to the price of TWO 981 Spyders

i own a spyder. Had it since April this year, great car
Has been recently shopping for a different car, and drove R8 , I honestly liked it , I liked the DSG , the engine and it handled well. The only reason I am not ordering one is because of depreciation. The one I built was 200 k and I know it will go down to 150 after I sign papers. So, I decided to wait or get a lambo instead. Have time to look around as winter is around corner

The only r8 I would consider instead of Spyder, is the older model manual v10.. having tried one it was a very special exotic experience. Heavy feel and **** steering, but rowing an NA V10 was a bucketlist item for me. However, I would still probably take the Spyder.
Now, if I could find a 2wd Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder in manual (did they make one?)... Then I'd have to go for that over the 981 Spyder. Just barely but I would.

Thanks for the input...actually really like the new interior of the R8, but like the styling of the coupe much better than the spyder. That being said, I would miss the 6 speed, and convertible.
