It does sound awesome ...

I don't quite get the comments about 8k rpm engines; maybe I'm confused ... 8000 rpm redline isn't particularly high these days, and doesn't every Porsche NA flat six of the 981/991 line (2.7, 3.4, 3.8) have an 8000 rpm redline?

An engine revving to 8k, and an engine that continues to make power to 8K are two dramatically different things.

Keep in mind that the R51 thats featured in this post originally had a 7,200 RPM redline, and only made power to 6,400 RPM. Thats a big difference.

This R51 is currently making 80HP and 110 ft/ lb more torque than the original engine in this 987C, while it only gained 200ccs of displacement to do so.

It takes years or R&D, and experience to accomplish this.

That makes perfect sense. I guess the meaning of the phrase "8,000 RPM engine" was not clear to me. Would be great to see the power/torque curve alongside a 3.4 or 3.8 reference when it's available!

PS: That video really made me wish the 981's had less sound insulation... When the top is up on my Boxster, I can barely hear the 3.8 with the headers and sports exhaust, despite the fact that the car is already too loud from the outside...

Trust me, you could still hear an R51 in that car.

The exhaust note shares nothing in common with any Porsche combination I have built before. It has a note much like my Testarossa. It sounds nothing like a Flat 6. Nothing.
