I do like that one. It looks like it is easier to carry.

Kevin I have a Durametric Pro and can reset the oil life. I am just north of Albany and would be happy to help on your next oil change.

Default $199 special in So Cal

Heads up for So Cal owners:

Circle Porsche in Long Beach is advertising in the PCA Orange Coast Region monthly magazine a $199 oil and filter change special through June 30th (up to 9 quarts of Mobile 1).

After recently paying for the oil and lower fluid change on my twin F300 Yamaha Outboards this seems like a downright bargain. :

you guys should stop complaining. In Australia, the annual oil change comes in around $700-$800 depending on the Porsche dealer

I find it amazing that places charge that much and that people pay it. Oil changes are pretty easy on these cars (at least 986-987.2 which I regularly DIY). My last 987.2S oil change cost me about $60 total between the oil and filter. No jackstands, I jack up the rear in my garage and set it on ramps with the front on 4x4s to level it. The actual mechanic work is just about trivial. No service light on the 986 and I live with the light on the 987 or request a courtesy reset next time I'm at the dealer (rare).

Someone told me that Porsche puts special "break-in-oil" in our cars?

Our cars are filled with Mobil 0W40 from the factory. This is not a break in oil.

I was actually told the same thing when I recently took my car into the dealer for a change at 1,000 miles. I asked my Porsche service advisor what his opinion was of "preventative" oil changes way before the manufacturer's recommendation and he said, personally, he wouldn't do it because Porsche uses a special break-in oil that should be left in throughout break-in. It was the first I had ever heard this, although I know of other manufacturers, Honda in particular, doing so:

I still went ahead with my oil change and haven't had a chance yet to do some additional digging into the matter. If true, it calls into question the merits of doing an early change unless the replacement oil used is the special break-in oil.

That's always been my understanding, so that's why I was taken aback by what my service advisor said. Those guys certainly aren't in the business of trying to talk you out of getting service work performed! I'd hate to think he's misinformed since I've been using him since 2005. If he's out to lunch on something as basic as this, it causes me to question what other erroneous service advice I've been given over the past 11 years

Would be curious to know what others have been advised.
