The configurator doesn't make you choose PCM if you choose sport chrono/track app. This makes sense because the systems are completely independent and don't interact with each other. Although according to the porsche website, it says that PCM will get you some additional performance display if you have PCM, which I haven't noticed yet on the GT3 despite a recent software update.

I'd go radio-delete and have a clean slate to work with for your chosen timing package and/or lightweight audio system. PAG's strong suit has never been their electronics, particularly audio/nav/communications. Extremely expensive with mediocre-at-best functionality.
Sport chrono requires PCM?!! I thought the app (for whatever that is worth) was in the screen which is standard even worth the crappy std stereo

Read above. It doesn't require PCM. It doesn't interact with the PCM screen or any screen at all except your phone. Totally independent. A shame.

Agree, I think it looks nice, but if the consensus is that the app sucks (even if they could update the software at a later date), it makes it hard to spec for just the looks of the clock.

Just to confirm:

* you do still get the sports mode button to activate quicker throttle response without sports chrono, right?

* is not speccing sports chrono the only way to avoid auto-blipping? I'd prefer to do it myself and not have to deactivate PSM to get there.

My understanding is that only options that the upgraded Sports Chrono package offer is the clock and useless software. All other features (Sport button, auto rev matching) are standard.

^Correct. There is massive confusion on this because sport chrono adds different features on the non GT cars. When it comes to the GT cars, all 'performance options' are essentially standard.

sport chrono on the GT cars do not add rev match, sport button, dynamic mounts, etc, etc, like they have in non GT cars in the past.

You get the clock, and the silly app. That's it. Nothing more.

Thanks for confirming.

Here's the question now...when driving the car every day, do you get more mad looking at the empty space thinking 'I should've just spec'd the damn thing' or are you more irked looking over and cursing under your breath that the stupid clock cost you $1800?

Hmmm... good question. I like the red clock, but I don't think I would miss it if it wasn't there. I wouldn't spend the money if I had to do it again.

Missing Clock on gt3 isn't a glaring omission as the integrated one on Cayman IMO.

To me, looks cleaner/nicer without the analog timer...

Dealer is pushing me on this for resale considerations. It appears, at least on this thread, that most think it is a waste of $$$. Is there any merit to his thinking?

Really?...resale value? then you should ask your dealer how much of that $1800 he will give you back if you trade the car in a few years? Dealer's profit margin on that $1800 is probably $1200. I too like the look of the "clock" in the 981 but it doesn't appear to be worth $1800.

Also, I know I seem like a newbie but I sold my last Porsche back in 2004 and quit posting hear. I was under the same username before and had been on this board almost since its inception. Just don't want to come off like a troll.

Your dealer is clueless as to what SC does on the GT4. SC has resale value on regular models with PDK only.

orthojoe knows what he is talking about. The sales associate at your dealer is an idiot. SC is a meaningless option when it comes to resale on a GT4.
