Default PORSCHE'S BUILD LOCATION CODE

The 11 digit of the VIN is the build location. Is there a list of the Porsche's code? Our new Cayman is "K". I've seen "U" and of course "S" is Stuttgart. Thanks Gled

Correct.

Factory location:
S - Stuttgart
N - Neckarsulm Audi factory
U - Uusikaupunki Valmet factory
L - Leipzig
K - Osnabrück VW factory, ex-Karmann, hence the letter "K"

PS Current Boxster 981 is build at both 'S' and 'K'. Porsche no longer using Audi's facilities in Neckarsulm (924, 944, 968) or Valmet's in Finland (987). Starting in 2016, Porsche will probably add the letter 'B' for Bratislava (Slovakia) since Cayennes will be entirely built & assembled there. Currently, the Panameras are welded & painted at a VW facility in Bremen, but final assembly takes place in Leipzig. So it doesn't warrant a separate factory location for that model. Once the Cayenne production/assembly moves entirely to Bratislava, the Panamera will be fully welded, painted & assembled in Leipzig!

PS Back in the early 356 days, we had bodies manufactured for Porsche at various Karosserie makers in Germany & Europe - Reutter (which was later bought out by Porsche), Heuer, Glaser, Drauz, D'Ieteren Freres (Belgium) and Karmann at Osnabrück. The association with Karmann lasted into the early 911/912 period. It's a very interesting relationship - Porsche with Karmann at Osnabrück -which was an independent manufacturer until 2009. Karmann is now owned by VW.
