In order to get the most out of this conversion, did you have to change the gear ratios or the final drive ratio?

Gear ratios remain the same.

i have been considering this conversion.

I believe you need a DFI boxster/cayman to swap to a 3.8DFI carrera engine.
(the electronics are more interchangable)

Yes, the ECUs from DFI cars can "talk" to other DFI motors. I believe there is some reprogramming involved so you don't get fault codes, but for folks who really know these (like BGB) it sounds like it's comparatively straight forward.

Actually, this is the best intel that we came across during our homework. The 981 base car has a short ratio transmission for gears 1-6 (4th might be the same).

So, Lee's car with the 3.8 has a short ratio 6-speed trans vs. a Cayman S with a 3.4L that has slightly taller ratios. Regardless, all of these ratios will be available soon from Guard Transmission. And given that we ran their gears for half a season in the Rolex Series, I can speak to their reliability.

John,

Could you or someone from BGB tell us about your experience doing this engine conversion on a PDK equipped Boxster/Cayman?

I am seriously considering ordering a new 981 Cayman PDK (with Sports Chrono of course) and have you put in a 400hp CarreraS engine.

I have a leg injury that limits me to only PDK. PDK adds another level of complexity to the engine/transmission interface and I was wondering how many Carrera engines you have put in PDK equipped cars, and if any of those were of the 981 generation?

Thanks for your thoughts

John
Can this engine conversion be done in a 987.2 base model (2010) with 6 speed manual? If so what engine would you put in, and what else would need to be converted.
Thanks for any insight.

I can't say enough good things about John Tecce and BGB. They've been a pleasure to work with on this project. But I will post a full thread with pics, driving impressions, etc probably next week or the week after.
