Default GAN Tuning question

A friend of mine who owns a Porsche 987S has just asked me about a company called GAN Tuning.

They supply a Smartphone controlled ECU device that they claim can give you 35bhp for 189 UK Pounds.

Seems to good to be true. Has anyone heard of these guys?

Also here is a link to the product sold on Design911 website;

Based on a custom 100 octane tune I had done by a well known tuner, 35bhp isn't possible. But for a couple hundred bucks, someone should take one for the team and dyno test it.

I had a look at the website;

GanTuning say for 189.05 pounds, you can get 41bhp additional power out of a Cayman 981 GTS (340bhp) giving it 381bhp.

Can I trust this company? or is it just bull sh*t?

If it is what i suspect is bull sh*t seems strange its an product sold on the Design911Shop website.

Just another BS company making money by selling crap to people who want to believe that something 1/10th the normal price can work as well as anything else.

Generic OBD thingy that probably doesn't actually do anything. Reviews range from "this is BS" to "I think I can feel a difference!".

I mean, seriously, any car you select in the list the claimed power increase is simply stock + 12% exactly. Like a 991 GT3 RS getting +60 HP from 500. Jesus wept. If they actually knew which cars they were talking about then all 981 cars with the 3.4 would end up with the same total (diminishing increases) but it's the opposite with these clowns.

Oh, and you cannot "tell" the ECU what to do with timing and throttle angle via OBD as their FAQ claims. You could theoretically flash it, which they don't claim to be doing, but simply plugging this in and magic power cannot work.

It's a scam.

Got me...no time on the wheels. Only the butt o meter. However, there isn't much other than timing and air-fuel with a NA engine. Porsche has these engines high strung from he factory.
I have seen sheets with different maps and doubt they left 10 to 15 ponies on the table.

Hi Bob,

with all due respect, i think your wrong on this one at least for some porsche models.

The Boxster 981S has a 3.4L engine which is the same identical engine as the 991 base 3.4L. There are loads of threads on this, I think the only difference is the exhaust.

The 981S has been detuned to 315bhp via the ECU while the 991 base produces 350bhp.

Both Softronnic and FVD provide 981S tunes that produce 352hp for the 981S.

All the best

Michael

The primary reason that the 981 3.4 makes 25 hp less than the 991 3.4 is because the computer partially shuts the throttle plate as the car approaches red line. This is so that the Cayman/Boxster twins will not be faster than the cash cow 911. Aftermarket tunes delete this. The cams are slightly different on the 991, but that makes little difference.
