Well, I had them mounted at least 10 years ago in both garages. In the other garage they got filled up pretty fast, see below (battery charger, parts of exhausts, garage tools, portable tyre inflater etc).
In this one they are still empty, but I fear that sooner than later I'll start adding storing things. For now there are only a few bottles of wine.
I really love the spyder (along with everyone else), but what car is that under the cover? Looks like the front of a Morgan (Aero 8?) to me?
So how does the Morgan driving experience compare to the Spyder? Would love to get an updated take on this now that you have had both cars for a while.
Two incomparable worlds.
Morgan requires a lot of respect when driven, considering that is 100kg lighter than the spyder, has 60hp more and no electronic control whatsoever (except ABS).
On top of this the R&D costs for the entire care are probably aligned to what Porsche spent for the definition of the LWB seats.
It's hand built, with an aluminium chassis bolted and bonded with an ash wood subframe.
Gearbox... please no. Simply no. A crappy BMW 650i automatic gearbox good just for cruising (while the engine is supersmooth and nice and the exhausts just exhilarating).
If you drive it hard it tends to kill you. And while doing these, making crappy results if you look at a chrono.
The spyder is as simple as effective. Forgives you everything, it's always fast and comfortable. Even my wife would be able to make good track times. Always being reliable, strong and "communicative" (not sure if this word makes sense). And all this with a price (both new and used) that is 1/4 of the Morgan.
No reason to buy a Morgan when you can have a Porsche.
But try to guess which of the two is a keeper, for me, if I need to choose? Until when I succeed to slip into that tiny ash and leather coffin, of course. The adventure starts there. At least it's obliging me to stay reasonably fit.
Very interesting that both cars are built with lightweight design in the foreground however the end results sound pretty much the opposite. The Morgan more of an archaic old school result and the Spyder filtered and refined. I can see why you may be drawn to the Morgan as I believe it’s the same reason many are drawn to the older, less developed cars. They offer a wild personality that has been largely removed from modern cars.
Having both is certainly the best of both worlds in this case, you pick the keys to suit your mood for the day.
Nice gift! I’ve been searching for one of the leather covered umbrellas that were originally sold for our cars. I see them on occasion in Europe but rarely here in the US.
And anyhow I was just thinking that this interior is already 17 years old (well, this specifically 11, but the design has not changed that much from day 1).
Could somebody make me a picture of the carpet behind the seats?
The vertical one where, on top, there are the rollbars?

After a few years, I decided to make a "weird" move. I perfectly know that the new brit elephant (same size of the spyder but with around 500kg more) will never dance like the 987 but that was a car that I always wanted to own.
So the bergspyder is gone and this (weird colour combo green-blue) Aston Martin Vantage S roadster is now in the garage.
I will be away for three weeks. Really curious, when i come back, to check how it will be bringing around 500kg more than with the Morgan or the Spyder.
