987 Boxsters make the perfect daily driver. After flogging one around Angeles Crest Highway, here are my thoughts on why it’s the perfect all-rounder. You won’t want to miss this…
My experience supports these observations fully. I'm driving my 987 Boxster S year-round, commutes, airport, groceries, client meetings, cross-country... you name it. Great car to spend my time in and I am spending ALOT of time in it lately. Added a connector for phone/music to factory Bose system and good to go. Wife drives it for weekend out of town trips and when I'm not in town. She looks quite cool in the Boxster.
You should see me pile a keyboard amp, two-tier keyboard stand, 88-key stage piano, all accessories, etc. into this little beauty for band practice nights and gigs. It impresses onlookers with it's practicality. And, perhaps my favorite, is driving at night with the top down. Who'd've thunk that top down at night would be even better than top down in the daytime? Just love it.
I didn’t yet read the article, but I wonder why a 986S wouldn’t also fit the title of the article? Too old maybe? I don’t know, they are pretty reliable even after nearly 20 years, and the 986S is also quite affordable.
Really? Wow. I think you mean keyboard, but even so, amazing.
I had a 986S and loved having 2 trunks. The only reason I have a 996 today is for my 2 small children. Otherwise, I’d go back to a 986/987, but only an S version.

My kids used to fit perfectly into the back seats of my 944, back in the day. Fun family car when the kids are still the right size :-) We went camping in that vehicle.
Yes, it's a "stage piano", aka keyboard. You should see me load up a tournament's worth of fencing gear and weapons into that car too. Full size cooler fits in the trunk... amazing packaging, that vehicle.
My Cayman 2.7 987.1, all weather, spacious and reliable at 110,000 miles. And I carry my electric upright bass, amplifier and wife's sax.....all in the rear. Take that 911.
My first pcar was a 987 base boxster. Great car, daily drove to work, lots of fun to rev out without getting in serious trouble. Drive one back to back with a 986 and you will pick the 987 every time.
Great 5 speed, steering feel better than 981. Sold for the allure of a Cayman S.
