Dealership PPI is a check list containing things like wipers and wiper fluid good, check. Tires, check. Lowest tech in the shop gets the check list job.

Indy specialty P shops, at least the good ones will look at major weak points for the car in question. I havent spent less than 500.00 on a PPI in years. Last PPI I had done was 650.00

LA is expensive but I perfer a complete PPI on a P car.

Paid for 3 in the past year, Raleigh, Chicago, and Orlando, all Indy inspections. $250 - $300 without borescope. Had a price from well known shop in S. FL at $450 but a known expert. Chose not to pursue the car for price reasons. Some reports were longer than others, but all involved a critical test drive, thorough inspection, and a discussion with me about the car. Helped me reject two cars that would potentially problematic.....money well spent.
