Next move from 981 Cayman S
So I've posted before about this
But alas my parameters have changed. I have decided that I am finally "maturing" (aka aging!) and getting too lazy for the work of manual...paddles also somehow seem more relaxing...and like I said I am maturing...
So here's what I like in a car:
NON_TURBO, I am open to superchargers, (I recently drove an M4 and it reminded how much I dislike turbo lag)
LOW END TORQUE
CRISP THROTTLE RESPONSE
COMPACT SIZE
GOOD VISIBILITY
The car will be a pleasure car only for me, no commuting, but it will be my only car so I need some practicality
my upper price limit is maybe 110k cdn, I want the car be in warranty so I am looking at models from 2013 and up
here's what I have in mind:
2015 and down AMG C63 COUPE
SLK55
F Type Coupe R AWD
Vantage v8
I have only driven the vantage and need to drive it again...
Would appreciate thoughts and experiences with these cars...or is there a car that meets my criteria that I have missed?

You might think this is crazy but here it goes.. The car you own is already eons ahead of what some will ever even get a ride in. My advise is if you are "getting older" and there is an avenue to leaving full time work more quickly by investing that same money, I'd keep the beauty you have and focus on that goal. The one thing we can't buy is life minutes and the more you get to spend the way you please the better life is but if that sounds like nonsense I'd go for the Aston Martin.

My thoughts after looking at other cars, going through a couple of Macans etc... is to change out your Cayman for a 981 variant with a PDK. I am daily driving mine and it is a blast AND has tons of room with the front and back hatches for travel, groceries etc... It is VERY hard to beat the practicality and drive-ability of the 981 Cayman. Just sayin'...

I'd trade my Cayman S 981 PDK Sport Chrono PASM etc etc for
1.) Carrera GT - V10 whats not to like
2.) 991 911R
3.) 997.2 Mezger GT3
Thats about it.
So that means I am very likely to have my 981 or a GT3 for a long time.

As long as we're including cars that are no longer in production, the next step up from the 981 is a Ferrari 458. No thinly-disguised rear-engine track cars or 3800-pound Jaguars need apply.

A lil bigger but...
CTS-V. This or last gen. both qualify.
Or if you really want torque charger/challenger hellcat.
Or how about a 991.1 with PDK. Not as much torque but more than 981 and has a great tranny and is still small, fun, and practical.
Honestly i dont think "compact size" and "low end tq" are possible in todays market without going with a turbo'd car. The closest you can probably get are cts-v coupe, c63, corvette or S4/S5.

Agree with the others. It says a lot about the 981 platform that the next step up in most of our minds is at least a GT3 if not higher up the food chain. If you're tired of shifting, get a dang pdk like the rest of us daily drivers - would be a lot cheaper than buying most of the cars you listed.

but what good are more life minutes without a ride that you lust after?

I felt that way about the 944 and 986 but the Spyder is plenty for me. More seat time is always a good thing.

This may sound crazy, and CPO prices for it may still be above your budget, but hear me out...
Have you looked at the BMW i8?
It is turbocharged, but the electric torque fill makes the perceived throttle response very sharp (in sport mode). Plus the car has a low center of gravity for precise handling and the paddle shifters are very responsive (again, in sport mode). Almost everything about the car is electric, and therefore adjustable.
In terms of practicality, it only have one trunk, so that's a step down from the 981, but it does have a backseat and good visibility. And it looks like a spaceship.

Do NOT get the w204 c63 coupe. I had one before switching to the godly cayman. You will hate the transmission. You will hate jerking to a stop at every red light. You will hate the squeaky brakes that Mercedes can't fix. You will hate the sloppy heaving steering. And it doesn't feel that much faster than a 981S in a straight line.

drove a c63 yesterday with the performance pack and I quite liked it....tranny was a little off as you suggest but otherwise it sounded good, is compact with good visibility, had amazing low end torque and crisp throttle response and felt significantly faster than my 981S (as it should with a 4 second 0 to 60 time)....it somewhat surprisingly is a contender...
