Default changing oil early at 2000 miles

Is there any real benefit to this? I've been debating an early oil change myself. If I do one I would like to do an analysis as well.

I did it. It's what I was taught to do. The analysis part is the new thing for me so I'm interested in what you find out so please share if you go ahead and do it. Does this mean you have to change the oil yourself to obtain a sample to send in?

unfortunately no. I wish I had a lift. I will ask the dealer to save me a sample.

That's an awfully generous offer, Ddesimone17.

OP: It certainly won't hurt to do an oil change, but there isn't much benefit at all to doing an oil analysis on a new engine.

Thanks very much Ddesimone17. You have a sweet garage too. Saratoga is a great place. Maybe for my second oil change if the offer still stands. I want to get Laser Jammers installed before I brave i87 and the Northway.

You are lucky though. I remember I had to meet a friend at SUNY Potsdam and some of those roads in Adirondack Park are just awesome. I remember that trip well. I had an 84 Carrera Targa that I couldn't start without a rolling start. So for the whole trip I couldn't shutoff the engine. I also had to park on a hill or find a good samaritan willing to give a push when I did stop. Thank God they built them light back then. That was the early 90s too so no cell phones either. The things you do when your young for a girl. Lol

Open ended invite , lots of fun roads up this way , the trade off for crappy winters

So get some of your spyder buddy's to do run up this way especially in July / August

Thank you. I will try. Suppose to be a real nice racetrack up that way too. Horses not cars though.

The experts - actual experts, not internet "experts" - say no. Modern oils and engine manufacturing mean the engineer recommended change intervals are more than sufficient.

And the car company's risk managers also weigh in, so that if there was any significant amount of risk to the recommended interval, they'd reduce it to save on warranty costs. Probably if there was even minor risk in using the recommended change interval (with the recommended oil spec and quality).

I always get very cautious when a "real expert" is brought in.

However in this case, they may be right.

Two reasons to change oil earlier than manufacturers recommendation would be, 1) peace of mind and 2) if you intend to keep the car for the long term (ie, past warranty).

I changed my oil/filter at 2,000 miles for both reasons, experts be damned.

I have third reason. It's good for the economy.

It is anyway funny that the oil change interval is 1 year in the US, and 2 years in Germany...;-)

If you are not going to Track the car, follow the manufacturers interval.
If you are, I change at 2000 miles before I Track the car, just because.
Not an 'Internet Expert' but a real live Engineer. FWIW-Richard

This.

My previous comment failed to consider track cars!

I never claimed to be an expert but I will add that my uncle/surrogate father a retired Engineer also told me the same thing and that is why I change after a 1000 or so. I understand Nowadays it's considered unnecessary and bad for the environment, but hey I don't eat meat and I figure that's an offset so please don't judge me for being cautious and listening to my elders especially those with a 63 year old Porsche in original condition.
