Default Spyder dreaming...

1) The next Boxster Spyder will have a N/A engine. Dr. Oliver Blume told us so in July 2017.

2) I would not worry too much about the 918 VIP program in depleting the Spyder allocations
for non-VIP customers. The 718-chassis era Spyder, like the previous two models, will NOT
be a limited edition like the 911R! So PAG/PCNA will send its remaing 918 Spyder Circle members
in the US (250 or whatever the actual number might be) an email asking if they want one. Porsche
will agree to those requests, set those slots apart & then announce normal numbers of Spyder
allocations to their US dealers per whatever metric they are currently using for that model!

3) Whether the next Spyder has a de-tuned 4.0 from the .2 991 gt3, or a
short-stroke version of the 991.2 GT3 engine (petevd's clever speculation)
or the older .1 991 3.8 with the old power kit of the GTS, I will take it! It will
not be turbo-charged...rest assured!

https://rennlist.com/forums/987-981-...e-crazy-3.html

4) If you want one, get on a dealer's wait list ASAP. I would think the allocation
process to be similar to the current .2 991 gt3...difficult but not impossible to
get! And if it doesn't get the detuned or short-stroked gt3 engine & the latter
becomes impossible to certify beyond calendar 2018, then none of these issues
will effect Spyder production & we will see builds of this model into calendar 2019.
That means a longer production schedule & greater availability of allocations to
you & me!

5) I just hope it gets the same front-end bumper treatment of the gt4!

But even without it, I'll take it!

6) I expect PTS pricing will be higher than that option costs on the 718 ($5,500).
But it might assured us in the US market greater PTS slots.

7) I'll take mine in a manual, with Light Weight Bucket seats, full leather interior & PTS!

Saludos & Happy New Year!

I don't think it will be that hard to come but if you put your name in now. After they announce it I think it will be difficult to obtain without an adm. Had my name down now for awhile, first on the list. Decided to skip the GT4 this time around and go straight to the spyder.

If the new 718 Spyder does in fact have a 4.0L n/a six with 400+ HP, what do you think the base price will be? $110K? More/less?

Based on previous price increases, I'm thinking mid-high $90's.

If this turns out to be true, actually a better news than a detuned GT3 mill for the following reasons:
- It will keep the costs down, as I suspect the GT3 engine could be quite expensive.
- Maintains the status quo: GT3 is the Top Dog;hence, needs to maintain its cachet.
- If this is a new engine, derived from other modular design, likely to be certified for Euro regs 2019. This also means, it will have longer service life and room to grow in terms of power output. One could then see that the NA will likely be around for yet another gen post-982!

Now, if they could give us 8k redline!!

I’m curious how Porsche will position it to the 911T which is $102k.
My gut says more expensive? What does everyone else think?

I’m on the list at my dealer. One of the few cars I would consider selling my PTS/LTS Powerkit Targa for, especially if I can get PTS again (another green most likely). I prefer a power top, but since the Targa has to be stopped to move the top up or down, I’m sorta halfway there anyhow .
Eduardo, did you get my email? Changing ISPs soon and I would like to add you to my new Contacts list. Thanks.
Happy New Year all.

Got it. Responded. Thanks.
Eduardo, do you think PAG will offer the option of painting PORSCHE on the rear deck body color? I've heard it can't be removed and it seems the least appealing part of the design changes to me.

It won't be more expensive than T. If someone's Cleaning Lady is credible and the engine is not from GT3, then my guess is, priced between C2 and C2 S. I am forecasting mid-90s. That puts it at a nominal margin from Boxster GTS, still under C2 S. It will also be consistent with so called "great value" given the equipment level and dynamics, as we have seen with past gens.

I hope this is accurate from a price perspective.

While I would definitely prefer the car to rev to 9k (and would pay a premium for this), I'll be happy with a nice, round figure of 8k

Or, if you like your current 981 GT4/Spyder 420hp and 8krpm is only an x51 and a tune away..... I'm running 8100rpm and I think some teams have run the 3.8 to 8400rpm, there's just no power up there in the stock engine....
