Assuming the convertible is $2500 more than the coupe, that makes its base price 82500 give or take.

So heck yeah,

If the new spyder is 7-10 grand more, then I say bring it on, with a base price of $90000 or more, that will hold up the value of the 981 spyder.

Thats all I really care about.

That’s really encouraging to read. I want to drive one.

My fear is that because Spyders are holding value extremely well and selling above MSRP, deslers will begin playing games with them. I am SURE they will do it with the GT4.

I'm the one 718 owner that voted and checked that the GTS doesn't interest me. I have little doubt that it will be a great car, but I already have a 718S with SPASM, PSE, PTV, MT, SC, etc. so other than extra hp/torque, it's pretty much the same as the GTS. Spyder will be my next toy!

Where can one drive a 718 GTS? I'd love to put my foot down in one.

I thought this was an interesting thread relate to the 991's turbos. https://rennlist.com/forums/991/9296...e-991-2-a.html

This post by NoGaBiker was especially interesting to me.

"18 years ago I built a Miata track car using an Aerodyne Variable Vane Turbo. It was an amazing piece of equipment, especially considering control was totally mechanical -- no electronics to control the vanes. The concept was the same as Porsche's 2007 implementation (mine was done in 1998, and the product had been available for several years prior.) Lag elimination because of fast spool-up of the turbo with the vanes tucked in and then big power capability when it was spinning fast made for a great, responsive package. "

So, it appears the tech has been around for a long time, but Porsche isn't using it across all models. Some people say it's because it makes the sound of the engine even worse.

I honestly don't know... just trying to learn along with many of the other folks here. :-)

Depends on the dealer, but I am putting my long time dealer to the test. I'm #1 on his list for a Spyder (hopefully not with 5 other "#1's") and he's promised me the car at MSRP. Agree on GT4's.

LOL, I’m literally on the list for every exciting car at my long-time dealer. GT2, GT3 RS, GT4, Spyder, 918 replacement... let’s see what happens.

I did find that it isn’t that difficult to build a relationship with a new dealer. All it takes is some money lol

All the turbo trash talk probably chased all the 718 owners out of RL

The 718 seems to be a great car and the mid range turbo torque is pretty sweet. I'm not in the market but I would be excited if the GTS had a stronger top end. The 718 I drove seemed a little laggy under 4k rpm but if the GTS had more mid to top end rush like the McLaren turbos the low end lag would be worth it.

Or RL/IB could have been smart and just created a separate subforum for the 718, given how different the cars are, and avoided most of the bickering.

As a 911 TTS owner, I can attest to the fact that Porsche indeed knows how to make a high performance turbo in which turbo lag is a non-issue. As someone who has ordered a new 718 Boxster GTS, and from all the reports, I'm expecting a similar experience with the 718 GTS (albeit at less than the TTS' incredible speed).

DITTO!

But mine was a Euro (DE) version. Maybe different? Can't imagine very much.

In a few short years, we would be yearning for any Internal Combustion engined car!! The writing is on the wall. More pointedly, IC engines' days are numbered. Many countries have declared sunset time frame. To make matters worse, gradually, we will start paying more insurance if we insist on driving on own own, as opposed to being driven by "safer" self-driving vehicles. If I didn't have the option of Spyder, I would sure consider 982 GTS. In a generation or two, we wouldn't even have that! Having said all that, I am pretty surprised about the very low # of 982 owners or their participation here. Probably we need to tone down our snobbery!

Youre right. I’m trying to savor this last decade — turbo or hybrid or NA. Winter is coming.
