Default 981S PDK vs 718S PDK

Hello guys,
Anyone knows if there is a difference between the PDK mounted on the 981's vs the PDK mounted on the 718's

I think the PDK was upgraded a couple of times since its introduction, personally I own a 981S 2014 model and I'm courious to know if there has been any upgrade to that gear box since then.

I understand it's the same tranny on 911 models up to GTS trim, so it should be up to the task on 718s for sure. As far as improvements, my guess is each year probably has some, but after the 981 came out, relatively minor. I read 2016 cars had minor upgrades, but it was here, not an official source. I'd say they were pretty much perfected after 2012, and for sure by 2014. Hopefully you'll get a more concrete answer.

I remember in Dec. 2009 I drove a 987S (2010 model) equipped with PDK and downtown it wasn't as smooth as the PDK I got on my 981S, but honestly I don't have any clue about what they modified.
However when I drove the 718S I did not notice any difference between its PDK and the one I have on my Boxster S 2014 model, except for one thing: if you manually shift with the PDK's lever, it works the opposite way (which is the way it should be)
I.E. Pull for higher gear, push for lower gear.
In my 981S is push for higher, pull for lower, which doesn't make any sense, however I use the paddles if I manually shift and never the lever.
Porsche's paddles are great, I am glad they got rid of the stupid buttons on the steering wheel.

There's an easy solution - it's called 6MT. OK, PDK is a terrific automatic if you must ...

Phil, I know what you mean, and the stick shift gives some sort of connection between wheels and driver that I can't find in the PDK, but IMHO that's just for the first few months of PDK's use. To tell you the truth, after a while I got "connected" as well as I was with a manual gear box. With paddles it's just the clutch pedal that is out of the equation, and instead of moving my arm I can hold the steering wheel and shift the gears with paddles as I like.
I am a roadster's addicted, I owned 12 roadsters, including 986S, 987S, Lotus Elise, 3 X SLK's, 3 X Miata's and so on. I always hated automatic gear boxes, when the Porsche had the tiptronic, if so equipped to me it wasn't even a Porsche. But I got the 981S with PDK...
May be it was to give a try to a newer technology, may be it was because I'm getting older, but the fact is that there is no more Ferrari with manual gear box, no more McLaren, no more Lambo, no more GT3 RS! I thought it was time to change and try to learn the newer technology who proved to be better in every way.
I am a pilot, an old one. I used to love turboprops, but I don't see them anymore. Just a couple on a busy ramp in Teterboro on Friday afternoon, everything else is jets. Faster and safer.
With the PDK I shift faster and I feel safer in holding the wheel with both hands at all the times.
May be am old, but I like new cars :-)
