981S vs 718S

718s.
I love that Cayman/Boxter are going their own way now, instead of using de-tuned 911 engines.
Also, the 718s drives great.
It's like Porsche is going back to its roots, with performance being more important than following convention.
I suspect 718s is a 420hp engine, that is software detuned (to keep it from stepping on the 991.2).
Lots of potential in the 718s.

Ha ha. Obviously a woman (by the purse). And that's my other problem with the 718. It looks a lot less aggressive than the GTS, especially at the front. Don't like the back either, and the main culprit are those ugly-a$$ reflectors Porsche added (why???). And the new ugly vents and wart-chrono were also a step backwards. But the main killer was the engine. I don't care how fast it is; I'll never own a 4-cyl sports car, period. So there you have your answer.

Finally got to ride in a well equipped 718S last week (courtesy of 311RS!) While I didn't drive the car, I was thoroughly impressed by its capabilities. This particular car had PDK + PTV. The mid-range power delivery is not even remotely comparable to a 981S. You can feel the extra torque from below 2k all the way to 7k+ RPMs. It accelerates with true authority, and I actually thought it sounded pretty cool as well. The handling was impressive as well, though not too far off a 981S from my (limited) experience. While I do not regret my purchase of a 981GTS in the slightest, part of me kinda wants a 718S to get the best of both worlds!

I have found almost universally that the perception of speed and Gs is greater as a passenger.
I think that if you were to actually drive the 718S you'd probably be very happy with your 981GTS. Imho the 981GTS also looks better from the exterior as well.
With that said the SC+ PDK appears to have been well optimized for the 4 cylinder turbo in the 718S. Whereas with an MT, the 0- 60 acceleration that so many "enthusiasts" seem so enamored with is actually only 1/10 a second better in the 718S as compared to the 981S according to tests done by Car and Driver.
