So it stands to reason the difference is most likely due to the fact you're a faster, more talented driver than your rivals in the Caymans and that explains the difference in lap times, and less so because the BMWs in discussion are objectively faster cars if all other conditions (equal talent pro drivers) are scientifically equal.

I think we can all agree on this.

M2 will be faster in real world commuting assuming same transmission as Cayman GTS. Turbo engine with torque everywhere in rev range. But anyway, Porsche n/a sports cars aren't about commuting speed, so this may not be an issue for you.

I'm primarily going to be using it as a daily driver/occasional HPDE car. I've had the chance to test drive an M235 which seemed like it'd be a great daily car, but obviously M2s are tough to come by.
Just ordered a 2017 M2 today........ now have to decide whether to keep my 997.2 GTS cab.

I figure I'll drive the M2 for a few years and then get into a cayman GTS or boxter GTS

I daily drive my CGTS - can't really fault it. Also, the CGTS definitely out handles the M2 - which is no surprise given the weight difference.

Is your CGTS a manual or PDK?

Its a PDK with PTV, for reference I test drove a number of vehicles before buying the CGTS including the current M3/M4 (both on road and track). The CGTS in my opinion is in a different league from the point of view of driver dynamics.

I am sure the M2 is great value and for many that like mid-range torque it will be the ducks nuts.

For those that want a fully integrated package with razor sharp handling, it really is very very hard to go past the CGTS.

Make no mistake, the GTS is quick too - my car was VBoxed - 0-60mph in 4.1 and the 1/4m trapped at 114mph/115mph (in around 12.6)
