This is a very good idea. I'm going to do this next time I'm in a similar situation.

When touring, the spouse gets the frunk and the other spouse gets the trunk! Not fair if you need quick access with the top up. Spouse used to get #26 in a saddle bag, no room for her hair dryer. Plan on keeping the top down and hair will dry quickly. I will have immediate access to the trunk.

987 Spyder top design would not withstand the top speed of the 981 Spyder. Would rather open the top in the rain to access the frunk than slow down in the rain. Do not like wearing arm restraints for HPDE's at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) Grand Prix Road Course, as 987 Spyder had to run top down to prevent loosing the top!

Default 987 Spyder Rules!

Oh, really? My recently acquired 987 Spyder has no such constraints. You can open the trunk and the frunk no matter if the top is up or down, if the sun or the moon are out or not, both ends at the same time, or in any order, using the door sill switches, or the remote.... Plus you new Spyder owners totally miss out on the 12+ steps that are required to take the top down, or to put it up. That truly builds character, and makes you a Mensch.

A good Mensch yes, but not a A 3.8L Mensch... No.

having lived with the 987 Spyder for a couple of years and now the 981, I prefer the 987 roof setup. The 987 setup is lighter and easier to lift out of it's spot than the 981. The ability to have the top without the rear section is great for staying dry while still getting optimal exhaust sounds. The 987 roof may be a bit more cumbersome but really, not by much.

The electric latch in the 981 sometimes misses the mark and the fumbling with the key/ignition in order to activate the latch to close adds to the complexity in the 981.

But overall, I'll settle for the 981 Spyder's roof shortcomings just for the 3.8 and the shifter

From my sales guy.
Don't forget if you're fumbling with the buttons, go underneath and the buttons are located on top of where the holes are underneath; saves fishing around.
Easier to try then explain, but it works every time.

The two parts that take a bit of getting use to are finding where the button for the latch on the fins are and folding the fin. Everything thing else is easy. Putting the top up is very quick.
This video really clarified it all for me, thanks.

So, you Spyder guys paid extra for all that trouble? And that was an improvement from the 987? OMG!

I can get into my rear trunk any time, top up or down, and the entire top operation is electric and automated.

It's the price you pay for the sexiest humps this side of Emily Ratajowski laying on a beach blanket.

I had a 991 911S (same engine) so I know what it feels like. Honestly, until after I replied to this thread yesterday, I didn't realize that the Spyder had that engine. I was kind of wondering what the big deal is about that car. Now I know.

I had to Google her. Cute girl.
