diming dash lights
'14 cayman: at 0%, I find the dash lights still way too bright - I don't know what factory idiot set this car up this way - anyone found a way to dim the lights to a reasonable (barely visible) level? Anyone found a way to dim that annoying super bright red LED in the lock indicator in the middle of the dash (other than painting it black?) - I just can't believe that Porsche sets this car up so it's almost undrivable an night with all these lit up useless things everywhere. And it takes a whole bunch of steps to turn that stupid center console display to black -that should be a single switch. I guess people buy these for show now, not for driving.... .grumble grumble..... there must be a way

I assume you might have looked at the manual, but just in case, please see above, page 124.
Good luck.

I have the dimmer set all the way to the dimmest position - it does seem to be more effective now with the updated software (see my post on the nuisance warning), so the main gauges at 0% are only a little brighter than I want, that's tolerable. I'd still like to have an easy way to turn off the display in the center console so it isn't distracting - it can be done but as soon as you turn the car off or touch anything it comes back - I'd like to program a single switch to do that rather than the rather dangerous (while you are driving) search through a hierarchy of menus. And the red LED on the door lock indicator is really really annoying. I may become really desperate and resort to black paint to dim it down - anyone got a better suggestion? I haven't (yet) figured out how to get that door lock switch out so I can increase the series resistance to the LED and make it a whole lot dimmer.
A dab of water-based paint, such as from a kid's paint set might just work. I do the same for the retina-searing blue LEDs you get on computer cases (such as the power light), and it is easily reversible. May take a few coats though.
at first i thought this post another PITA po. owner. i turned down the dimmer **** tonight to test. NOTE TO THE EVIL ELVES IN THE ENCHANTED FORREST....WHY BOTHER WITH A DIMMING **** YOU DIMWITS IT MAKES LITTLE DIFFERENCE.i agree the builders/designers do not own/drive these cars
extanker - you will find another post from me talking about a recent software upgrade - before that upgrade the **** was much less effective than after the upgrade, so you may want to check the SW version - beware that in my case it took almost 2 hours for the tech to upgrade the SW, and the dash software was one of the things he upgraded.
i do not have issue with the dimmer for my eyes,so i am okay. i hope you get relief with your eye issues. the dimmer ****,over engineered cup holders, roof racks ,position B on the rear hatch ,euro "l/r parking lights etc. are no biggie but they make ya wonder....what were they thinking ...oh yeah i forgot...hoops ya have to go through for a dead battery, porsche wiper fluid booster, porsche anti freeze.............ninja pleeeezzzz. done my morn no coffee rant

well, you are right about the idiotic cup holders that mustn't ever be used to hold cups and don't work to hold sunglasses or live chickens or much of anything else - it is absolutely impossible to hold anything in those holders without having it spill no matter how gently you drive - at least my 944 has an AC outlet into the glove box so you could keep your beer cold.....
