Spyder/Cayman R owners tempted by the 2015 981 GTS?
Just saw the post in the Cayman S forum by Sonnen Porsche that there will be a GTS version with 370hp/325tq coming next spring. I was just thinking that the Spyder would be a keeper for a long time, but +50 hp would really be nice, especially if they finally bring the sport buckets to the US 981's.
Very tempting imho....

That might be enough to get me to wait a year...... I wonder what the price premium over the S will be?

If it really gets 370 bhp (seems too big a jump), sport buckets, 19in 5-lug wheels (please no 20in CL!) and lighter weight I'd be tempted. If it had adjustable suspension would be hard to resist. But GTS badge seems to imply more power but a touring emphasis rather than tracking. Who knows. Will be interesting to see.
edit- just saw the jalopnik piece. Nice car but wouldn't get me to trade my CR.

Also sounds like a 997 GTS like zedcat kinda mentioned, not a GT3. I know not direct comparisons. Personally I hope Porsche does this GTS and not another Spyder or CR. Better for us existing owners....

Very mild bumps in power, equipment, and price. If they do offer 981 Spyder and R models, based on the price on the leaked slide for the GTS, they will be $80k.
So the new tradition of constantly coming out with new variations, making your customers kick themselves for not waiting 6 months, continues. Seems like a good business model for short term profits, and a poor business model for keeping happy, loyal customers. But what do I know...

340hp is not enough to get me to trade in my 987. Now if the GTS or R has 370hp, that's a different story!

Just my two cents.... I used to own boats, my third and last boat was a 26' Searay Sundancer with a 454 bravo two, loaded, manifold generated hot water, transom and bath shower, 28 gal waste tank, stove, fridge a real cruiser for overnight comfort and a fast boat for it's size. Everyone else went bigger, when they did, they didn't leave the docks as their 34 footers ate gas, cost more to moor, etc. So what do they do? Buy small whalers to drive and turn the cruisers into floating camps, no thanks. I learned from them there is such a thing as going too far, unless of course you have deep pockets. I'm keeping my Spyder and frankly I am not swayed by the lure of more hp, I can't use what I have as much as I'd like. As someone else said the new cars will likely be 80K, throw just a few goodies on the list and you're at 100k. For me, I can't see it being worth the price delta, the spyder is already plenty special in it's own right.

One would hope that Porsche will put out a more powerful Spyder/R in a few years. If the 981 GTS Boxster is going to have 330hp and the 981 GTS Cayman is going to have 340hp, that would entail at least 350hp for the Cayman R, and that's what the base 991 engine puts out. And I doubt very much that Porsche is willing to put the same hp in the lighter Cayman as they do in the sacred cow 991, even though apparently Porsche themselves now admit that 981 buyers do not cross-shop 991s and vice-versa...

...and based on what we now know about the GT3, I expect PDK only after the mid-cycle refresh.

Well, of course having JUST bought my Spyder my answer is no... But yeah it's pretty surprising to me that they're already coming out with a new version after JUST releasing the Cayman...
But as others have said, a HP bump isn't enough to get my interest. For me the Spyder's about the driving experience... About feeling everything and being one with the car. The lightness and purpose and the special appearance.
If they do come out with a true 981 Spyder I'll check it out but with the electric steering I'd need to try it out first.

keep spyder, b/c these things dont come often (i equate it to RS4.0)
lease the next box, thrash it around, turn it back
wife wont allow another p car., else i would have a spyder when they were released few years bk.

I seriously doubt if we will see a GTS with 370 hp, more like 340 as others have pointed out. Even with 370hp I do not think I trade it for my '12 Cayman R. My R is a focused, visceral driving machine -- an extra 15 hp will not enhance that experience much.
