My new Boxster S

Thank you for a well written and considered review. I enjoyed it more than professional write ups because it came with the background of one with plenty of track time in various 911s. Much appreciated!

Guys one more oddity. The sun visors do not pivot, normally you can unclip the visor and swing it to the side to block strong sunlight hitting you from, say, the driver's side. On my car, the visor is locked in place and if you try and yank it out of the clip at the inboard end, you break it. Is my car an oops or are they all like that?

PSE hardly makes a difference, on or off. Kinda a lot of money for a miniscule increase in sound. I do like the crackle and burble on the over-run. Dunno if the regular exhaust does this too. If so I wasted money on PSE.
I was surprised how mellow the sports exhaust is on my 981S. I test drove a 2011 Boxster Spyder last year with PSE, and it was much louder. As a matter of fact I disengaged PSE after about 20 mins because it was too loud for me. It was great for awhile, but I didn't want a prolonged exposure to it, especially with the top down. Of course the Spyder had over 11K miles on the odometer, and maybe that makes a differance. You don't get the crackle and burble on downshifts without PSE. BTW PSE does sound very sporty, at least to me, when you agressively go past 4K RPM.

Fresh - I didn't yank it. The head tech at the dealer did and broke the retainer on one of their cars in stock. Oddly enough we looked at an earlier Boxster a 987 I think and the visors pivot. Go figure. By the way you don't ALWAYS drive with the top down but headed north with strong sun to the west in winter can be annoying without the visor.

Having had a 2000, 2005, 2009 and now a 2013, I don't recall any of the sun shades pivoting. Maybe a Canadian option , eh?

It's always nice to see a 911 enthsiast give the Boxster its props.
Bob, why did you elect PDK?

Great write up and impressions!
One thing about PDK and 7th gear and that droning,
maybe due to PSE, because as either on or off, PSE makes a difference in exhaust sounds compared to stock.
In stock exhaust and PDK and 7th gear cruising, there seems to be no droning.
One other thing, in stock exhaust some burbles can be heard when pushed real hard with the top down.

Mooty, yeah, a Boxster or Cayman with a GT3 motor would be my first choice. I have heard rumors of a Cayman GTS in the future. No details.
Coolhand - the drone is there with PSE on or off. I think I need to be going over 80 MPH in 7th to get rid of the drone. Solution is to go manual and drive in 6th. Still, I am surprised. I wonder if these cars have the sound symposergizmo, maybe stuffing it with fiberglass would help ....
