Default 981 6sp manual vs 991 7sp manual question?

I was wondering if the new 6sp manual in the 981 is the same transmission as the 7sp manual in the 991 less the 7th gear. I have a 981 6sp and have driven the 991 7sp and they feel the same.

I have read that the 7sp manual uses dual clutch technology.

Thanks.

Jim my understanding is that the 6 Spd in the 981 is identical to what was supplied in the 987. The 7 Spd in the 991 is a modified PDK unit.

Personally I would rather have the 6 Spd for several reasons, they include lower overall weight, less complicated and they can be repaired. From everything I've read the PDK is easier to just replace rather than trying to repair.

I was wondering if the 7 Spd feels any different regarding clutch pick up points, ability to modulate the clutch and shifter feel. Interesting to hear that they feel exactly the same.

Afshin is correct above:

The 6 speed manual in the 981 is basicly the same unit that was used in the 987, manufactured by Getrag.

The 7 speed manual in the 991 is a single-clutch manual version of the ZF manufactured PDK unit.

Chris Harris says nice things about the 6-speed.

The 7 speed manual in the 991 is based on the 7 speed PDK box but with manual gear selection.

981 uses an updated 6 speed manual from the 987 and is unrelated to the PDK 7 speed.
