I have a 2013 Boxster with the base steering wheel and I want to get a MF steering wheel from a similar year Boxster or Cayman.
I know I will have to code it.
Do I need a new closkspring or can I just install and code it to activate the features? Thanks!

You will need additional hardware to add MF. Have you read prior threads on this, as they contain a lot of helpful info?
Shiftywolf,
I really appreciate the reply. I read everything I could find on here and Planet-9 and most folks are trying to convert to a 718 or Macan wheel. I haven't found any threads about just adding MF to a 981 that doesn't have it. They also usually have a lot of discussion about upgrading the clockspring to handle steering wheel heating, which I'm not concerned with, so I don't know if I need a different clockspring or not.
Do you have specific knowledge on what HW I will need? Clockspring, steering wheel control module?
I'm just looking for the lowest dollar possible upgrade, because I'm happy with the steering wheel and I'll figure out the PIWIS thing for programming. Getting a 981 steering wheel seems reasonable, just need to figure out the other components. I appreciate any further light you can shed on the subject.

If I buy a used steering wheel and the complete column with clock spring and stalks etc, will I have all of the HW required and just need to program it?

My mistake, I completely missed this in your original post. I had to look online to see what was offered for 981 and found the below stock photo from Suncoast.Originally Posted by FLYPC981

I'm afraid I'm not much help, although some users have reported good help from Suncoast on answering questions. I'd think your original airbag would fit the new wheel but you'll want to be certain. There dont seem to be many people swapping for this wheel but hopefully someone with specific experience can assist.

OP, why don't you send a message to Suncoast Porsche? They are actually helpful.
So you have a 981 non-MF PDK std steering wheel and would like to install a 981 MF PDK std SW.

GM,
After talking to Paul at GPS adapter, it is likely more expensive than I'm willing to risk. From what I understand I would need a MF steering wheel, the correct steering wheel column setup with the right stalks and clockspring.
After install I would have to buy he code for the MF steering wheel and also have codes for everything else on the steering wheel and code them via PIWIS.
I'm brand new to the car and I'm still getting my VMware PIWIS laptop going, however if I don't get it all working then I'm worse off with a steering wheel that doesn't have a the manual shift, or cruise control, which then forces a dealership trip and triples the cost of the mod.
I was hoping I could get an ebay steering wheel and steering column, and then use my own PIWIS to code it, even if I have to buy the MF code.1
If someone has experience doing the coding portion that may reopen the door for me. I appreciate everyone's help, and I may reach out to suncoast.

I definitely support you living with the current setup for awhile to see how you feel. If you decide to make a change at a later date, you always have that option.
