Carrera T to GT3 to Cayman S

I was contemplating adding a CarPlay module but ended up swapping to a new head unit. Customisable, apps, quicker etc etc. Recommended.
Make sure you check out the tops of the door cards which separate. Mine were replaced under warranty (AU$10k) but they are repairable…

GT3 went back to RPM Technik (UK) yesterday (Wednesday) and I’m due to pick up my new-to-me 2014 981 Cayman S tomorrow!
Will be a novelty to be back in a PDK car again, after about 6.5 years driving manual P-cars!
PSE should be retrofitted by pick-up time.
Am getting prices on:
SportDesign steering wheel (Alcantara)
Apple CarPlay
X73 suspension
7mm spacers all around

I'm sure it's bittersweet to see the 911 go, but hopefully the new house plus Cayman will restore the smiles!
Re carplay, I've recently fitted joyauto and a reverse camera, and whilst it is much improved over the standard 2014 system, the screen does feel dated compared to my '24 Audi (family car 🙄 Might be worth, as above, considering an aftermarket unit.
Where are you based? I'm on the South Coast and you don't see huge numbers of Cayman's with improvements.

Thanks, yes, will consider the aftermarket unit for CarPlay once I've got the Cayman & seen how I like the interior etc.
I'm currently in Swindon, and hoping to be moving to Bristol.

Congrats on the new car. It looks great!
For anyone else referencing this thread in the future, I highly recommend the 987 Cayman R. An excellent car with a special feeling every time I got to drive my friends.

I went to a 981 Cayman S from a 997 Turbo for similar reasons that you are. I found a unicorn with manual, PSE, X73 and PTV. Only thing I added was a 93 octane OTS tune. Car rips, sounds amazing and handles so well. No regrets.

My 2014 981 Cayman S is just back from LAP 911 LTD here in the UK.
”A few” upgrades:
X73 suspension upgrade.
15mm & 12mm spacers.
Alignment.
Apple CarPlay installed.
Alcantara SportDesign steering wheel.
New rear control arms.
Aircon re-gas.
New sump plug & seal.
Going back next week for new alarm siren (to cure the random flashing of the hazard lights).

I’m coming to the 981 platform from the opposite end of the financial spectrum - a ‘21 Miata RF.
Once you get some seat time in the 981, I’d be interested in your views on how these three Porsches compare.
Before deciding to pull the trigger on the 981, I came very close to ordering a ‘23 CarreraT. And a GT3’s on the bucket list...

The GT3 was my bucket list car. 2017 and a manual. Loved it, with a tremendous sense of occasion every time I drove it. Then I decided to move house, so needed to get the cash out of the car.
Then traded for the much less expensive 2014 981 Cayman S. This is a PDK and pretty ‘under the radar’ compared to the two 911s. Am happy with it & I’m sure it’ll be a great daily driver.
Just to say, there’s a big difference in cost between a 981 (non-GT4) and a 2023 Carrera T!

Yeah these used caymans are a great deal. You get the fun of the Porsche experience at a relatively cheap cost. Since I don’t track I honestly feel my 14 cayman base is the perfect mountain road car and the headers just make the sound so much fun. Does a GT3 or GT4 sound better, maybe/probably but at a huge cost. And you cannot even use the power on the street. I regularly hit 7600 and love that sound without triple digits.
