Default 981 Cayman S: High-level Preventative Maintenance

What are some areas where preventative maintenance should be done on these cars? Since some are almost 10 years old now, what parts of the car are known to cause issues down the road? I know of the oil separator but anything else?

I would say the adhesives - they will all fail in time. The most affected from this are the door panels, headliner and headlights.

The AOS has been proven to be pretty robust on this generation of cayman/boxsters. Much more of an issue in the previous generation.

I'd keep a close eye on your waterpump. The above suggestion of the adhesives is a solid one. One thing that I see missed quite often is the condition of the transmission mounts. If your exhaust tips are sagging more than an inch away from the lower valence it could be a sign that the transmission mounts are starting to give.

If you have a manual, the fore/aft shift cable (LH side of transmission) will eventually break. Happened to me at 7yrs/46k miles.

Roof drains, for the Boxsters. They are a pain in the neck to access and clean, so it may not be getting done even though the dealership may pencil-whip "Check/clear drains" on the inspection list.

While doing my spring maintenance I discovered a rear PASM strut/shock leaking and the OEM Bilstein B4 Damptronic strut I wanted was on national back order. So while waiting on the parts I decided to do complete maintenance including some of it well in advance. Along with the oil change I also did : PDK clutch fluid and gear oil drain and fill, serpentine belt with tensioners/rollers, spark plugs, air filter service, brake fluid flush with new braided SS brake lines including ABS flush and pollen filters. I also installed the kit (see below TSB) to stop or prevent a leak in the coolant pipe. The coolant kit is an inexpensive and easy preventative measure that can avoid an expensive repair.

edit: I previously proactively replaced the ignition coils and added heat shields to avoid failure. Also keep an eye on the battery as it can create a lot of gremlins when it starts to weaken.

2013 Boxster S with 41K. The frunk switch and window switch. Just replaced frunk switch with a Chinese knockoff. Door panel pulls off with a solid tug. Removing the switch was difficult. Right widow switch does not work. Will try another Chinese knockoff switch. Youtube how to remove without removing door panel. I have a new alternator and AC compressor a couple years ago.
