How many people use an H8 battery
I'm about to change my battery in my 981. Presently I have a H6 sized Interstate. I don't track my car and not really too concerned about weight. I'm curious how many use the larger battery?

I do. Works great. Got a Super Start AGM battery from Orielly Auto Parts..I fantasize the extra weight adds more down-force to the front tires.
No issues after 3 years since install. Periodically I put it on a Noco Genius5 battery charger/conditioner..just cuz.
Without fail, the car starts every time I turn the key.

IF you desire longer storage times without needing it on a charger, or have extra accessories and don't mind the extra weight it is a great option. Having more capacity in a battery is always a benefit for the reasons I mentioned. And if you're not pushing the Car for weight and performance then it won't matter.

I do, but for no other reason than an H8 was all I could find on short notice when I my factory-original H6 started failing. I've noticed no difference in performance of the H8 versus the H6 (Daily driver, no track). Be forewarned that while the H6 is heavy, the H8 is the heaviest car battery I've ever lifted. While it's possible for one person to do the job, it's a much easier job with two people. Also, the location of the battery dictates that you use some type of protection on the front fenders to prevent leaving scratches when you lean in to R&R the battery.

I do not track the car so I didn’t mind the extra 12 pounds. I stood in the frunk when installing it which made it a little easier and avoided damage to the car and my back😂. I bought the Duracell 92AH H8 AGM battery from Sam’s Club for $189 and initialized it with my iCarsoft POR V2.0 to take any possible advantage of the larger capacity battery. At that price I figured why not?

I too debated if I should go with a larger size or if it wasn't really needed. I ended up with an AGM H7 battery and haven't had any issues. It is lighter than the H8 and larger than the H6. I figured it was a perfect compromise. I live in the north and have extremely cold winters, but I don't drive it in the winter so cold starts weren't much of a concern for me. Whichever size you end up with, I would stick with an AMG over the standard lead acid. It seems to be better for newer electronics, especially with cars that have auto stop/start.

I decided to go ahead and use an H8 battery. I bought an Interstate at Costco for $186.00. Installation was straight forward and yes I did use to Frunk to ease installation. I had to chase the threads of the nut plate used for the bolt that attached the hold down bracket at the new position of the battery tray. The threads had gotten rusted. The battery is somewhat heavy and a little bit of a pain to install. I also registered the battery with my iCarsoft CR Pro+ It was simple using the Porsche battery part number and serial number I found on this site. iCarsoft uses the term scan number for the serial number which confused me at first.

Costco also has H6 batteries that will work with 981, if anyone wants to maintain smaller size.
