My 2016 981 Boxster has a coding issue.
It started acting up awhile back. Non-functional switches for the top, trunk lids, and multifunction gauge. It was NOT the battery. Tested battery with a sophisticated electronic tester and it was good. All codes that were apparent then have been reset, BUT I cannot control the multifunction gauge (with the stalk). The only code that the car shows is for the (open) Sirrus antenna which I cut several years ago.
Thank you Larson. Have you any experience with loss of the control of the multifunction display?
I have been on this list for seven years and have never heard of a "loss of the control of the multifunction display."
What I have noticed is that as the 981 models have aged (The newest one is now seven years old) more an more are displaying weird error messages and failures that, to me at least, are not so much systemic failures as tiny little sensors and what-not succumbing to the ravages of time. You're just going to have to peck away at it until you isolate the problem...
I love the 981 but my god, Porsche loaded this model up with massive possibilities for failure...
Thanks Terry 993, J and Larson. The above (title codes) are the only ones that my 981 pulls. The first "satellite antenna circuit open" is because I cut the antenna line. The second "Wheel change detected" is because I changed the wheels and mounted my snow tires.(!)
I don't have a clue as to how to approach this problem at this point.
I got three pages of information from an Autel MaxiSys Ultra scan and no other codes show.
Anybody have any suggestions?
Bond J may have the answer! Is there a separate module for the stalk that needs to be reprogrammmed? It is acting as though the stalk isn't even on the car. But the blinkers, turn signals, high beams and wipers are working normally. Also, except for the fact that the tire change warning is blocking them, the gauges are working, and the nav works fine. If I could control the MFD I could blink the car back to knowing that its wearing its snow shoe now and all would be fine. Can't set the clock though...
I would think that this problem is solvable with the correct programming.
@Larson E. Rapp The battery was replaced by Porsche in Jan, 2020. Autel MaxiSyst Ultra recently tested normal battery function. @BondJ Is there a way to independently test the steering column stalk, as the blinkers, squirters and windshield wipers are functioning normally. Is the programming for the steering column module accessible to recheck?
All suggestions gratefully received.
I wonder from reading more about my recent electrical problem if the rear Body Control Module has become corrupted.
Does anybody know how to repair this? I would prefer to buy PIWIS software and reprogram the BCM.
