Default X-pipe & tips that don't stick out

I can't stand how the aftermarket tips stick out past the bumper on all the x-pipes on the market.

I wanted the Fabspeed X-pipe because I believe the design flows the best. After receiving the X-pipe, I found some tips from Jones Exhaust that are 1in shorter. They come in chrome (#JST139) or powdercoated black (#JST139K).
  • weld-on
  • no branding
  • only 5" long
  • 4" in diameter

During install, I held the tips in place then my friend tacked them. We welded them up off the car. This was the final fitment.

There's a small but definite sound improvement, and I love that it looks factory.

Thats pretty much what I wanted: the same tips, slightly larger, with a good x-pipe.

I've been curious as to what the sounds improvement would be from this. Intuitively I would think there would be some change, possibly a higher pitched sound? But I have the non PSE so I'm guessing I could not hear the difference in the cabin.

Any before and after video clips?

It sounds 'smoother' or 'less rumbly' and the pitch is higher

In general, you'd be surprised by the effect of just changing exhaust tips on sound. Here's a 3 min video with great comparisons.

For our cars specifically, there's already many comparisons stock tips vs the x-pipe

I have the soul X pipe on my GT4 and honestly not sure they make any difference aside from aesthetics.

I can easily adjust the SOUL Tips to flush or extend them out which I prefer as it keeps the back end from looking dirty all the time.

Two reasons I didn't consider the Soul X-pipe. First, it looked like the tips still stick out, even adjusted to the shortest position. This is the picture from Soul themselves.

Second, the Fabspeed part looks like it flows the best. Might be worth 2hp or 0.2hp. But all else equal, I'd rather buy the part that flows better.

Everything you read from the retailers says it better. But if you search you may find that some people claim you loose power with the xpipe. I have no skin in the game and believe any benefit or detriment is so minor for street driving that it will be in-perceivable. So buy it because you like how it looks or you like the slight sound change. They are much nicer than stock but I cant justify the cost for a cosmetic mod at this time.

There's several different designs. Which X-pipe are you reffering to?

I agree, but I still prefer to buy the one that flows better.

Some good Products on Aliexpress.com, from various suppliers at great prices, virtually all US supplied items are made in China or Taiwan, X -pipe tips made no difference to sound on a 981

Just changing tips alone has a huge impact on sound.
