Default Oil level rant

Hello all. I just want to voice my displeasure with Porsche's software glitch which makes reading the oil level "unavailable" at odd times. No I didn't start it with the rear hatch open. Yes it is 45 degrees F in my garage. To have to go thru a few drive cycles just to get it to read is unsettling. I am pretty sure the level is ok, being I did a change 1000 miles ago, and it was full at that point, but gosh, oil level is important. We should be able to read it at will.
This glitch is as goofy as the inability to program your settings on the HVAC system to be off when you start the car. No. I don't want to hear nonsense about Porsche wants to cycle the blower motor so it doesn't seize. That makes zero sense. Maybe they should cycle the windshield wipers so they don't seize ? These are simply programming errors that could be fixed with an update.
Please Porsche, we love you. Don't forsake us.

Ty

It is probably along the same line of thinking is having your coolant show 196 all the time.

I mean they do actually do that: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/7835...it-normal.html

I think the point of the half hour oil level reset cycle is that it wants to be checked hot. I have trouble imagining that's really necessary though since it's not actually a dry sump system. On the 986 it's checked cold and, at least on mine, the reading was instantaneous and always accurate (those cars have a physical dipstick as well to check against). FWIW the "ok" range is almost two quarts, if you run through that in the time it takes for a new reading, I'm pretty sure you'd know about it.

I agree oil level is very important. Porsche also agrees. If your oil level is too low, you will get a low level alarm regardless. Nothing to worry about. It would be nice to force a level reading though but don't worry, if your oil level is too low, it will let you know immediately.
