Quick Question - is there any harm in running the car for short periods before the new lines are on and the refrigerant is back in? I'd like to get this thing on the trailer and over to a body shop for an estimate.
This would be a great FAFO topic. I wouldn't do it. If I absolutely had to, I'd try and find a way to connect an appropriate line from the discharge to the suction side of the compressor, but again, only if I absolutely had to, and had money for another compressor laying around.

I think these are the keywords I was looking for. I think my body shop appointment can wait.

Just run a shorter belt and take the compressor out of the equation.

I've thought about this. I haven't had time to look into belt routing, replacement size, etc.

I've got one, but the more I learn about these A/C systems the more inclined I am to leave it the f alone if there's a compressor involved.

You might be able to just remove the belt altogether, if all you're going to do is drive it up onto a trailer and back off again.
