Audio Upgrade help
My 2013 981 Boxster is starting to have really poor sound. I a suspecting that the front speakers are blown. As I start to think about winter projects, I am contemplating replacing the speaker in the doors with something better. Its not very clear to me what my options are. My current system is BOSE with standard PCM 3.1 (with CarPlay added). Questions that I have for the forums are this,
1. Can I just replace the door & dash speakers and not touch the amp and the existing wiring?
2. If the amplifier is to be replaced, do after market amps take the optical connection or do you have to replace something else? I am not sure if the PCM even has any other pre-amp outputs, besides the optical connection.
3. If you do replace the amp, are the speaker wires that terminate at the amp connector under the seat usable, or do you have to run all new wires to the doors/dash and behind the seat backs?
4. If I do use the factory speaker wires (which would be ideal), how do you connect to aftermarket speakers without cutting the OEM connectors, are there adapters? If so, where do you source them from?
5. When mounting speakers in the doors, are there adapters, I suspect that the OEM mounting holes don't line up with aftermarket speaker. I found some adapter in teg web, but they all seem to come from the UK, which is ok, bit ideally, I could get them here in the US.
6. Lots of post on sound deeding. What do people suggest, usings sound deeding sheets that stick to the metal part of the door/and or something on the back of the door cards? Which products are best?
7. Seems like lots of post using Hertz speakers. What other recommendation are there,
