Default Top Gear Headers

Hi, quick question team - Any experience with these Top Gear headers? I'm having second thoughts as they are half the price of Fabspeed or Soul.

I have them, the quality is solid, I have heavily tracked them for over two seasons. I ran them on my 987.1 and now a set on my 981. They do have a mini cat in a tube leading to the downstream O2 sensor that's supposed to defeat the check engine light, it's not effective and I cut mine out for better flow. I use Garage Daddy 90 degree 02 spacers and have no check engine light.

I had the catted version on my car and had zero issues. Great quality welds and probably the best value you'll find.

I’m also in Illinois so I wanna make sure I pass emissions. Does any of your states require emissions testing?

New Hampshire does emissions testing via the OBDII and the Garage Daddy spacers will allow it to not throw any codes and sets the monitors. It would be quickly picked up on a visual inspection but that depends on who is inspecting.

As a fellow Illinoisan, do not be fooled into thinking a tune that eliminates the check engine light will be good for emission testing - it is not. Our testing stations can detect when the second O2 sensor is in standby mode. The only way you pass with catless headers is to have a seond O2 bung with the spacers and mini cats. The good news is that we do not do visual inspection or use sniffers so there is that....

These headers have 200 cell cats. I’m trying to see if that’s good enough. And also if the quality of the cats inside is good enough

I would not recommend mini cats for they have a short life with track use. My spacers work great with thousands of miles and many track day to back that up plus they are cheap.

I have them. The cat blew up after a few track days and some of it melted into the muffler. Wasted 4 track days and lots of hours/dollars on chasing the problem.

I'm not sure I understand. I'm trying to put on my car the EXHAUST MANIFOLDS WITH CATALYTIC CONVERTERS that I linked above. When you say the cats blew up what do you mean by that? These headers are stainless steel and that shouldn't happen, right? Are you by chance talking about the DECAT Exhaust manifolds or the cat back exhaust?

I’m talking about the catted headers. Cats can blow; I think technically they call it ‘failed’, and it’s not uncommon, especially aftermarket cats. I think the quality of the cat and how the car is used plays a lot into it.

I

just installed them on my 981 CS along with a fabspeed exhaust and I am very impressed by them. Everything bolted up solid to the engine, I used $20 O2 spacers from Walmart and no check engine light or anything.

I ordered these headers today, are these the spacers you used?

I just installed these headers with stock exhaust. It doesn’t change the volume too much. Very nice build and everything lined up. I didn’t put in a spacer and got a CEL after 100km.
