I retro fitted pcm 4. I installed a 718 oem backup camera. PIWIS sees camera. I went into PIWIS pcm and coded backup camera. But nothing when I put it into reverse. Nothing displays on pcm. PIWIS statesneed to calibrate camera and RearViewCamera (0x0B) - Function restriction due to communication error - BapErr_RetryNotSuccessful. Is this due to calibration?
Do you not need a controller (or aftermarket interface) to make the camera work?
Where does PIWIS see the camera?
my understanding is oem camera with harness from aliexpress code pcm. I am using a pcm 4.0 in my 981. PIWIS sees the camera but it fails to calibrate even when I enter numbers. That is the only issue with the camera module. The pcm is not connecting to camera not sure the issue.
I retrofitted this to my 981 GT4 with a Chinese interface and an ordinary camera.
IIRC all what I did was to code the PCM with camera option, no calibration needed.
Camera starts when reverse is put in or the car rolls back, but it does not show "moving lines".
Maybe your camera is faulty?

. I had a Chinese interface in the old pcm 3.1. I was told I could just do a harness and oem camera with coding. The PIWIS sees the camera coded it. I checked the pcm faults and am seeing this. U11100 RearViewCamera (0x0B) - Function restriction due to communication error - BapErr_RetryNotSuccessful. Could the camera be defective? How do I test?
Do you have the TV tuner? I know the signal wiring varies depending on if your car has it or not. And I imagine that affects the coding as well.
no. I wired directly. Wired it as follows can high and low connector E 6 and 12. Ground to ground screw in trunk with other grounds and power to fuse box. plus the two video lines to pins 6 and 12 on connector B.
I thought I would try to provide more information to see if someone could help. I retrofited pcm 4.0 into my 981 I purchased a harness and 718 oem camera. Connected to pcm. I have a PIWIS 2 and it sees the module. Says it needs to be calibrated(only fault) I read that is not needed to get it to work. PCM has fault communication error but I am very new at this. So is it coding or camera issue maybe gateway?
I am myself trying to diagnose a fault I currently have.
My camera was working OK but certain date coming back from the track it stopped working. I have Piwis 3 and I get the error in the reversing camera module that says "Status of Control Line Implausible"
I tested using Piwis 3 pins 30 and 31. I dont have TV tunner... so I am assuming control line refers to the high or low signal bus? Would that be the round cylindric thick wire that connects to the camera?
Any ideas much appreciated.

Hi there. I see as well an option to calibrate reversing camera on Piwis 3. My thought is that you would not need to run this because you camera is no OEM, so different controllers. Since calibration is the "Maintenance" menu, I understand that you dont need to code, the system would run just fine under diagnostics. Unlikey is gateway, because you are passed that already... reversing camera has its same module and gets info from the PCM module (reverse indicator, mileage, steering angle, speed... and the like)
