Default 981 GT4 CATTED header Q's

2016 981 GT4 here.

BMC air filters
catless full system.
tune.
looking to go catted headers to get rid of smell and police interest haha.

Do I really need to spend 4500 bux on soul headers for a 100% weekend driver 3000kms a year car?

I removed my catless system in favour of catted headers and need to choose which headers.

saw this review here
https://rennlist.com/forums/gt4-spyd...r-review.html#

has me thinking about grabbing top gear catted ones and a numeric shifter with the savings ????????

Topgear.uk at 1500usd
Armytrix at 2380usd
IPE at 2500usd
fabspeed at 3800usd
soul at 4500usd

am I getting double the performance and longevity out of soul vs armytrix at half the price. both are ceramic coated..... both bolt right up, both have 200 cell cats..........

or triple the performance and longevity over the topgear.uk units and buy a numeric shifter with savings as a bonus?!?!?!?!?!?

any input from the members here would be greatly appreciated, with regards to quality/ first hand experience, etc.

thanks all

Soul are excellent headers and my go to. I would wait for a set of used Soul or Fabspeed headers to show-up in the classified and purchase them from a Rennlist member.

I have the Soul headers, and have never owned the others myself. So I am unable to give you a direct comparison and quantify how much better one is over then other in monetary terms.

that said, I would say the Soul headers are very unlikely going to have the relevant horsepower and longevity advantage over others based on the price multiples you mentioned.

whether the Soul headers are worth it is entirely based on preference. One could get something like three Cameros for the price of a Cayman GT4. Then question is, does the Cayman GT4 last 3x longer and is it 3x better? Nothing against Cameros, just that often times the price tags don’t necessary reflect the quantifiable increments on price tags.

unfortunately there aren’t many good “comparison” videos that only compare stock headers vs Soul, or stock versus others. Most of the videos aren’t really parallel comparisons and/or are recorded using cheap microphones from mobile phones. Let’s just say I have heard some of those headers in person locally, and I wonder why people would spend money changing the factory headers out for the inferior sound (obviously what’s inferior and superior is entirely a personal opinion).

Agree.

I picked up ceramic coated CarGraphics exhaust headers from fellow RL'er for my Boxster Spyder; were half of MSRP.

Similarly, picked up Hanks Hot Rods 2nd cat bypass pipes from RL for less than half MSRP.

Love both. Would love less if I'd paid MSRP. If you're not in a hurry, buying used might work for you as well. Good luck.

I have a set of Top Gear catted headers and they are great quality, especially for the price. They look pretty much like Soul headers.
Been running mine since last summer and have had no issues, other than adding O2 sensor spacers due to the CEL.

when looking at headers, this is some of the criteria I use to differentiate them.
  • long vs short primaries
  • equal length primaries
  • larger diameter primaries (for the 3.8 engine)
  • presence of a merge collector
  • use of high quality cats (like HJS)
  • overall weld quality and material choice (like 304, 316, 321)

One brand I didn’t see you mention was FVD. If you want to spend the coin, they have relatively long, equal length primaries with a larger diameter for the 3.8L engine.

For 3.4

For 3.8

If others are looking for the same, I'm about to have two sets - Soul and Fabspeed (both with 200 cell cats) for sale in approximately 10 days.

How much are you asking for the SOUL headers?

Add to the conversation - take a look at the Cargraphics modular setup that have both catted and non-catted versions in one package. Best of both worlds to have "compliant" and non-compliant version in one.
